I am a second time mom, and started feeling kicks about 1x a day at the same time of day at 13 weeks. My whole family came down with the stomach flu 5 days ago starting with my daughter, then my husband, and I just got over it yesterday. I haven't really been feeling baby kick at all for the last 5 or 6 days. I am super worried as I have battled w/ Bacterial Vaginosis my whole pregnancy so far, and I am worried the infection was back and caused something to happen. I don't go to the OB until Wed. I am going to try to get in tomorrow instead, but is it usual for kicks to be this infrequent at this point? They had become so consistent.

I am out of my mind with worry!

The majority of flu-like illnesses don't cause direct harm to a foetus. Even when you get significantly unwell, your body is designed to preferentially ensure that the foetus gets enough blood flow (and thus nutrients). One -albeit horrendous - example of this is women who are starving (eg in concentration camps or more recently refugee camps), who often give birth to healthy infants.

Even though 16 weeks is fairly early to feel regular kicks, the fact that you have noticed a consistent pattern and there has been a change should warrant a call to your Dr. A quick ultrasound should rule out any major problems and you could then enjoy your pregnancy and not worry so much!

I didn't really have steady kicks with my daughter at that stage. They can be pretty unpredictable. Call your OB right away if you have worries though. They'll be able to give you some better answers. Each pregnancy is so different. Take some deep breaths and try to take it easy. Do call your OB though. You'll feel better when you do.

Its actually not unusual that the babies do not start kicking until the 20th week. Do you realize that they are hardly developed at 13 weeks and what you felt was probably NOT a kick. I would just wait until the OB can answer your question..The baby was probably not affected by your illness as along as you didnt start popping the medications without your doctors consent.

You should got to the doctor or ask a pediatritian beacuse your baby may have health problems or it probably died. I hope that you and your baby are ok.
