There are many bargains to be had on shopping E-Bay.com. I have bought lots of reels from that site and they are all name brand items like Shimano, Daiwa. You can find several ABU-Garcia reels like a 5000 or 5500C for around $30+shipping.
Here is an example for $25 free shipping.

Have you got any second hand stores or pawn shops in your town? Many times they will have decent stuff that you can usually buy for less than asking price or about 1/2 retail.

Contact slop-monster-bait in your town. I don't have a phone# but it might be listed. This is a seller of Team Daiwa reels and tackle on ebay.com. Maybe you can get hooked up for a great buy.

Your question is such a general question.........you are not going to get a rod and reel under $35 that will last a long time. Check you local tackle store (or Wal-Mart / KMart) and see if you can find a good 5-5 1/2 ft Uglystik and a Zebco 33. This will cost you a little more than $35 but it will last you for a while so that you can save up for something a little better. When shopping for rods and reels you should always buy the highest quality that you can afford............do some research on line. Look up some fishing websites with forums and message boards and ask around for advice. When you are on the water always talk to the fishermen you meet and ask them about any questions you have. Most fishermen will be glad to help introduce you to our great sport and give you any help you need.

Well Shamnio is a good brand I have used them for about 6 years now. There cheap and they last a long time and are low maintenance. You may pay a little more then 35 more like 40 to 50 but for someone who would fish a couple of times a year would only ever have to change on a Shamnio Reel is the line once a year. But the Shamnio Sahara reel and they have all kinds of sizes in that model.

Where can I find a cheap fishing reel(under $35) that is durable and will last a long time? The best place to buy cheap Fishing Gear and Tackle is at Amazon.com who stock a massive collection of bikes from leading brands.

They have over 16,000 different rod and reels to choose from as well as a huge selection of lures, fishing line, tackle storage, fishfinders etc etc. Try and find that sort of selection at your local tackle store.

Having a fishing reel that works well with your rod and with your fishing habits and preferences can help immensely to improve and enhance the fishing experience.

With the large variety of fishing reels available on eBay, knowing how fishing reels work, and which ones are the best for which occasions can help turn a rather daunting task into a simpler one.

There are several types of fishing reels available including Fly reel, Centre-pin reel, Baitcasting reel, Conventional reel, Spinning (fixed spool) reel, Spin cast reel and the Underspin reel.

Try yahoo shopping and Amazon.com to purchase new and on line, try eBay to buy on line and at auction prices. To buy in person try Walmart, Big 5 sporting goods, Sports Authority.
Brands; Mitchell is a super reliable brand, I have had Mitchell reels last for 20 years (and still going), Daiwa, Zebco, Shimano.
I am assuming you need it for freshwater and lighter spinning tackle, but I am sure you can find one for whatever needs you have.

Walmart sells a Zebco red rhino spinning reel that has held up nicely for me. I left it in the snow and ice all winter and it still works like new.

Tr KMart or Walmart.
If Zebco's are still around---you could run over them with a cement truck and they'd still work.
