Does the Pope drive, or does he just have someone else drive him around?

No, he doesn't. He has a chauffer who drives him around in the "Pope Mobile". It is a vehicle that is armored and has bullet proof glass. He does not drive himself for security reasons, and has his Swiss guards near him almost all the time.

There's a real answer to that...
Not nowadays, certainly. He has a driver, so he is free to wave, apart from status/security issues.

But earlier? We're not sure.
A car he had owned (1999 VW Golf) got sold on eBay.

But officially he's never had a driving licence.
See below.

He cannot let his red shoes get scratch from the pedals. His habits are too long and it might get caught between pedals also or be stucked when he closes the door of the limo. Plus it may not be safe to cars in front of him while he keeps on waving his hands to the crowds.
