I already have two dogs(a 3 year old Dashund and a 11 year old Dalmation) they both get along with each other and other dogs. They both enjoy each others company. As my dalmation aged he no longer loves to play fetch or romp with my dashund.
I have a feeling my dashund is nat having enough fun(or excersice) by playing with me alone. Im thinking of either buying a baby poodle or adopting a young one. But im not sure if its a good idea. I'm not wanting my dalmation to feel unloved. But i also don't want my dashund to become unhealthy and lazy. His energetic spirit is one of the qualities i love most about him. I need another persons point of view.

I have a 7 yr old Pekingese who is begining to slow down, and a 1 yr old Pit Bull, who has an A LOT of energy. My Peke will play with my pit, but only for a few minutes before he becomes very tired, but my pit bull still wants to play. I'm not a fan of dog parks, and its not like you can set up doggy play dates every single day, so my pit would be a little frustrated when her little buddy got tired of playing. Then about a month ago, my mom surprised me with a Great Pyrenees mix puppy. At first, I wasn't sure how everything would work out. 3 dogs can be a lot of work, especially one being a brand new puppy, but now I am so glad that my mom brought home this puppy. My Pit Bull and the puppy play all the time, and keep eachother entertained, all the pets get along, and everyone is happy. We've made sure that all the dogs get enough attention, and that we have plenty of time to keep up with training the new puppy. She is a great addition to our family.

This decision is really up to you. Are you sure you will be able to handle a new puppy, that will need lots of training and atttention, while at the same time providing enough attention to you other dogs so they don't feel left out? Do you think your other dogs will like the new puppy? Just make sure thet by getting this new puppy, you are not adding stress, or chaos to the household. The new puppy experiece should be pleasant for everyone.

Go for it! At 11 years old, I'm sure your dalmation is less energetic than before. And no disrespect intended, but he's not getting any younger, and will not be around forever.

If you do decide to get a puppy, be sure to get a breed that has similar energy levels as the dacshund. I'm not sure that a poodle would make a good playmate for a young, energetic dacshund. Perhaps a breed that is a bit more energetic would be more compatible with your dog's needs.

I'd go ahead and adopt another dog, that's around the same energy level and age, as your Dachshund. Just make sure you don't end up spending all your attention on the more active dogs. Make sure you take your Dalmatian for a walk, or otherwise spend quality time with him, still.

Try not to go for a puppy, since the boundless energy they have, can end up just pestering your Dalmatian. Make sure you introduce both of your dogs to the new dog, before agreeing to adopt, to make sure they both like the dog like you do.

Adopt!

Adding another dog to the household shouldn't be a problem...and don't worry about your Dalmatian, he/she will be fine as long as you pay attention to them. Dachshunds do need their exercise, but I am sure you playing with him is enough. You'd be amazed what dogs do when you aren't around. I had a mini doxie, loved him. So, it is just a matter of if you are ready for another dog. My aunt had a lot of dogs...she added one after another without any problem with the existing ones. By the way, the first one she had is also a Dalmatian, sweet as she can be, and the gentlest of the bunch. Don't get one just for the doxie....if you are ready for another though...go for it. By the way...I have a toy poodle now, smart thing, easy to train, no shedding and very sociable. Good luck.

i think u should get another dog because of how u describe ur dalmation i mean he has to die sometime and if he does than the other dog won't have any other dogs to play with at home and become kind of boring like how the dalmation is acting now

I think you should. My family had this problem once..only with a 16 year old dog and a 2 year old dog...So we adopted another dog about the same age as the 2 year old one and it worked out great because when the 16 year old passed away they still had each other for company.

i think you should take your dashund AND dalmation out running every day.

your dashund will still be active if you let him loose in the park or your backyard.

about your dalmation, i think you should just give her lots of love and not get another dog.

she's already old, so you should give her the best love you can :)
