I'm an amateur photographer and I've recently been interested in doing countryside and rural photos, mostly of doing some barns. Does anyone have any tips to get the best out of these areas to shoot, whether it is in black and white or in color? Thanks!

PS I use a Nikon N65 if it matters :)

Taking a lot of photos helps.Try different angles.Same subject at different times of day and weather .Try to notice what weather conditions are like when you get shots that you like then try to remember what it was like the day before.Keep notes on this kind of thing be as descriptive as you can.It will help let you know when conditions are likely to be favorable for the kind of pictures you want.

Rural photos are my favorite, both to view and execute. Don't forget to look for the smaller things in rural landscapes while you're doing the barns.

The previous suggestion of scouting locations at different times of day is a good one. The same scene can look dramatically different when viewed under varied lighting and weather.

If you plan on using the photos commercially, you should have a property release with you. Most people will happily sign it, and if they won't, just thank them and move on. Consult a lawyer in your area for legalities concerning photography usage.
