Hello Kristina,

Choose whatever major you enjoy. I have colleagues that were music, history, sociology, and chemistry majors before dental school. Regardless of what your major is, most dental schools require that you take biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, etc... to even apply to their program. So, in essence, it does not really matter what your major is as long as you fulfill all their requirements, are academically stellar and have some working experience/knowledge about the dental career field. As a matter of fact, a lot of admission board members encourage the diversity of majors from applicants. May biochemistry as a major help you in dental school, of course! But, it is not imperative to have a science base major.

Good luck and best wishes when you take the leap into dentistry ;)

KRISTINA,

IF YOU KNOW ABOUT BIOCHEMISTRY YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD START IN DENTISTRY. HAVING A GOOD GRASP OF BC WILL GIVE YOU A GOOD UNDERSTANDING CONCERNING DENTAL MEDICINE. ALL DENTAL PROBLEMS ULTIMATELY ARE CONCERNED WITH A BREAKDOWN IN SOMETHING RELATING TO B.C.
SOCIOLOGY WON'T BE AS USEFUL AS PSYCHOLOGY WHERE DENTISTRY IS CONCERNED.
BECAUSE I STUDIED B.C. IN UNDERGRAD,WHEN IT CAME TO LEARNING ABOUT B.C. IN DENTAL SCHOOL, I WAS WELL PREPARED.
BEING AN ASSISTANT IS USEFUL.A DENTIST WOULD HAVE A VERY HARD TIME W/O ONE. BEING A DENTIST IS A CHALLENGE, BUT VERY GRATIFYING.
