During the Salem Witch trials supposed ‘witches were put on trial and either burned alive or sent to prison. Being that it is more recent science can look at the history of this and find out what really happened.
The witches were just drugged out hippies on mushrooms and other psychedelic drugs. They themselves thought they were witches and would go to crazy orgy parties and get loaded.
The Puritans had lousy food storage and some of their food was tainted with a mold that caused hallucinations. So when they started trippin’ they thought the witches had put a spell on them. When their children died from poison in the mold they thought the crazy hippies had killed them with their evil power. So they burned the hippies at the stake.
This was just 400 years ago. If this had happened in the Old Testament times then it would have been a bible story. Some would even say that the witches were real back then and God had punished them. If this was the belief of religious extremists just 400 years ago, what kind of ideas do you think they had about the world over 3,000 years ago?

To be honest, when I read the Old Testament as a kid, I was shocked at the brutality of it. Nothing in it promoted peace and harmony. In fact, just the opposite.

I'm not sure I really understand your question, but here are my comments anyway. First, our country is only slightly over 200 years old, so the Salem witch hunts are much more recent than 400 years. Second, they actually happened and were recorded as a historical fact. Third, although we may now be able to offer a reasonable explaination for the behavior of people who were tried as witches, that does not change the events themselves. Whether they were eating mushrooms, suffering from dehydration, or just plain nuts doesn't have a thing to do with the fact that the residents of the communities felt that they were a threat to their lives, their children, their beliefs etc. Fourth, the books of the Old Testament are also recordings of historical events. These stories have been proven truthful through non-religious scholars, archealogists, historians etc., Again, if we can prove that the people of the OT stories were brilliant or crazy either one wouldn't change the fact that the events did happen and were recorded. Your question is worded in a way that makes it sound as though you believe the bible is a book of stories just like Grimm's Fairy Tales. The bible is an historically accurate, researched and verified collection of documents, whose purpose is provide God's word to the people who believe in Him. Many people are confused about the meaning of the term "religious" verses the term "Christian". They are not the same thing, and this misunderstanding is what causes many problem areas, especially in respecting someone else's faith and belief system.

salem didn't happen 400 years ago. Salem didn't exist 400 years ago...
The witches weren't burned but hung.
There weren't hallucinations there were little girls that got cought dabbleing in witch craft and started screaming to keep the blame off them and ended up killing of 20 or so women a man who was crushed to death and a dog.
I think at least one person on this question is on drugs. and I havn't hit anything since amsterdam last year.
the old test. is one groups ideas and interpertations of the world around them and the will of god based on who held power at the time, and has been changed over and over since. books put in and taken out over the years. Witches are real silly. They are people with a knowledge of the world around them and use it to their advantage. back then witches were the prelude to scientists. Gods do you think people in dirt huts felt estranged from their planet?

I don't see anywhere in the Bible where witches are burn. You can't relate such an act to the atrocities of humanity. This I tell you, if Jesus hadn't come, the same God of Old Testament still would have be operating today. Jesus' coming was the greatest gift to humanity. It's a shame some people have sight, but can't see.

Have you read the news lately?
A few new things have happened since the Salem witch trials.
By the way, I've met a real witch. I shared the Gospel with her. I didn't try to burn her at the stake.

I wouldn't say the NT is any better regarding that subject, but the OT was not meant to be literal. Although I'm sure there are some actual events in it, things like stoning or other brutal behavior were more like cultural practices than religious because they were common amongst all groups in that area.
