How do you religious people get into a religion? I want to but right now I think religion is just a way to comfort people who are afraid of death. It's also hard for me to believe because when people say there is a God, they don't know where he/she came from.

Most are indoctrinated in childhood. The rest fall to various types of emotional manipulation of natural human insecurities. Some just like the social aspect and go along with the crowd.

Personally, I think that it's best to steer away from all forms of religious superstition. And, yes, it is all just superstition.

This will probably not be the best answer of the most popular, but I will tell you based on experience. I have been many different religions and I have seen people who have been different religions and many people think we are crazy and that we go to the extreme and they say that it does not take everything that we do, but sometimes I wonder if it takes all of that and more. The bible first states that if you come after God that you must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of those that diligently seek him. I am Pentecostal/holiness, and it is the best thing I have ever encountered. I was living in sin. And people think that you cannot live a life free from sin, but you can. People say that to constitute and make excuses for their sin that they do. But I can tell you, holiness not only gives you comfort for the after-life, but you get comfort for even day to day issues, and you don't have to worry, and the Lord will also give you power. (Acts 1:8). But all I can say is give it a try, don't just be religious, because religion will not take you to heaven, it is your relationship with Christ that will cuz you can do all the "good" you want, but if you live in sin, you can't go to heaven and only what you do for Christ will last. Acts 2 chpt. speaks of the Holy Ghost, and that is what will make you live right. Now I am not saying you will never stumble, or fall, but God's love will be right there to pick you up, so you don't have to be religious, just commune with God and he will show you what you need to do and how you should live. I will be praying that you find the right path to go.

People get into religion through family and community contacts, but the best way is by self-evident belief. You start by asking if there is purpose and order to the universe. If you believe there must be something greater than ourselves, then what might that something or who might that something be. Then you look around you for what is good and true and beautiful and just or whatever you conceive God to be. You read what others have written about their experiences, including former atheists like C.S. Lewis, who find God through reason and logic. A lot of people are afraid of life not necessarily death, and want comfort and help now. By study we come to understand the nature and being of God. God comes from the heart and mind and nature of your being.

. First of all, stop looking at religion as some kind of disease
It's Faith that you're looking fore. Read the Bible with the understanding that it is the true word of God. Stop trying to figure out what God is and where He came from. Get in a good Bible believing church. Leave any doubt outside the door. I'm Baptist, but I'm not gonna tell you that it is the only one. Choose a church that believes in the virgin birth, the death, burial and Resurrection

To the above answerer: those who are "indoctrinated" in childhood usually lose their faith if it is only strengthened by the weak force of parental education.

For others who find their faith later in life, it is usually caused by a disaster that happens to them. You think you're fine, going through life on your own ability, when one day something doesn't work out for you... and you realize the limitation of your own knowledge and ability. Then you realize the need for a higher hand or higher power to be in control of your life-- God.

As for the existence of God, think about this. If you imagine the realm of the universe as a big circle, and your own knowledge and ability as a small circle... How small would your own knowledge actually circle be, compared to the big one? Do you pretend that you know even a fraction of the universe's truth? OK... so if your knowledge is so small, then who are you to say that the existence of God isn't in the rest of that big space outside your own little circle? And that you've just never discovered it yet? To say that there is no God is to presume that you yourself singlehandedly hold all the knowledge in the universe. And you know that's not true. You know that your circle is so so so small compared to that big one. Think about it.

im Christian...and I believe God didnt come from anything. because if He did...then who ever He came from would have had to come from something and THEY would have had to come from something...and so on. and God is supposed to be the creator of human beings...and if He came from something...He would no longer be God would He? its kinda like ur parents. u kno they came from they're parents. but when ur born...u dont know that. u dont know anything. u just know that they are THERE.
thats how it is with God...He's ur Father...and ur being born into Him....and u just know He's there. He didnt come from anything. but when ur a baby u do later on find out..ur parents did come from someone...but God..as u grow in Him...u do see....nothing is more magnificent than God...and if someone created God...something this amazing...then they had to be more magnificent. u see? okay...u can get into a religion by just looking into them and see their beliefs and their point of views. u may not alwas agree with every religion..and when u dont...thats when it comes time to just "make ur own" but as a Christian...i dont believ that. i believe in having faith when i dont see why God does something or lets something happen. yup. i hope u do turn to God...or look into a religion and learn about the spiritual world. im not pressuring u into Christianity...but im just giving u a preview of what it is. and then u get to make a choice. God gave freewill...and He wont take that away!

(1) religion gets into you not the other way around (2) It really doesn't matter where he came from, is, or going to as long as you know of his son - Jesus Christ - and believe within your heart. This is the starting place and reading + learning is the next thing! GROW IN FAITH.

Interesting... I came to religion after several years of atheism, and during that time as an atheist I was at peace with the idea of dying and death. So, it wasn't fear of death that led me to practice a religion.

You might find the Belief-O-Matic quiz over at Beliefnet.com helpful in determining if any religion is a good fit for you:

It's fun, and it matches you up with a wide variety of religions and philosophies (including atheism) based on your answers, with write-ups for each one. The results can be very surprising.

The original, unchanged revelations given to Abraham and other prophets(like Moses and Jesus ) reaching back to Adam all came from the One True God(The Creator). This common origin explains their similarities in many beliefs and values

However, over time the teachings of the various religions, due to a variety of reasons, have become distorted and mixed with made-man ideas.

The last Prophet and Messenger of God, Muhammad , who is a direct descendant of Abraham through his first born son, Ishmael, was sent with the Last Guidance, Revelation and Testament, the Holy Qur'an(koran) to amend and correct the changes and corruption made to the the "Torah" which was sent to Moses and theTrue Gospel of Jesus. To say the truth ,God preserved all the other Holy Books plainly by preserving His Last Book the Holy Qur'an(koran)which contains the right and the truth of all that was changed in those other Books.

This is why this last Revelation which was sent 1423 years ago has remained unchanged, not even a word or a letter has been altered.

There is not even one word of difference between two Arabic Qur'ans, anywhere in the world. There has been no disagreements in history among Muslims as to what should and should not be in the Qur'an. However, in the case of the Bible, even the most ancient manuscripts conflict with one another so that no two are identical. Footnotes in all modern versions of the Bible prove this fact.

These revisions serve as concrete proofs that all the Biblical books are not at all divinely inspired. This is because it is beyond man's ability to correct the work of his Creator, who alone is Almighty and perfect

It was only natural for Almighty God to preserve the scripture revealed to Prophet Muhammad, because he was the last Prophet and Final Messenger of God.

Islam teaches us that we must pray directly to God without an intermediary and no soul can bear the burden of another and that the nature of humanity is good, and we did not inherit sin from Adam. Each soul comes into being free of sin.in Islam there are no priests or clergy -- each worshipper, man or woman, has a direct relationship with their Merciful Creator -- Almighty God. Since God is the Owner and Sustainer of everything, as well as the only one who can provide true and complete forgiveness, it is completely futile to try to approach Him through anyone else.

The oneness and universality of God's message requires that people accept all the messengers of God. Rejecting one of them amounts to rejecting them all. The Jews reject Jesus's mission and Muhammad's mission; the Christians reject Muhammad's mission; whereas the Muslims accept them all, but reject incorrect historical interpretations and human elements in these missions.

As the Qur'an is the final revelation and Muhammad is the final prophet, humanity is obligated to accept it: "If anyone desires a religion other than Islam, never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost all spiritual good" (3:86).

The Final Prophet Muhammad said: "Whoever believes there is no god but God, alone without partner, that Muhammad is His messenger, that Jesus is messenger of God, and that Paradise and Hell are true, shall be received by God into Heaven."

you can do that now as you are reading these lines is to pronounce the two confirmations and attestations of faith, here it is

I BEAR WITNESS THAT THERE IS NO GOD WORTHY OF WORSHIP EXCEPT ALLAH ( ARABIC WORD MEANS ONE GOD-THE CREATOR). AND I BEAR WITNESS THAT MUHAMMAD IS HIS SERVANT AND MESSENGER. I BEAR WITNESS THAT JESUS IS HIS SERVANT AND MESSENGER.

The right picture of lslam is conveyed in the Qur'an, which is exemplified by Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. The reality is that it is not fair to judge a religion by the actions of its followers alone because there are good and bad followers in every religion. The correct thing to do is to judge a religion by its documented revelation from God and the prophet who brought that revelation.

I encourage Christians and other religions to learn about Islam from Muslim sources and The Basis Of The Muslim Belief and not rely on second hand information which in many cases is distorted or contains a deep seated anti Muslim agenda. This is indeed a more scholarly approach
