it could be the ignition switch too, sounds like your just getting start voltage and no run voltage

I know exactly what your problem is... It maybe the part called the CCRM, which is located under the bracket the holds the overflow tank. It could be the Ignition module which is located under the airbox, or even could be the magnetic pickup in the distributor. Had all of them happen to me one time or another. Hope these help.

i have had a similar problem that had me stumped for a while.
i could start the car but as soon as i relesed the key, it died.
crank it again, and release the clutch (manual transmission in neutral) andthe engine continues to run until i released the key.
this meant that i had a bad bypass circuit, or the wiring from my ingition switch was bad. since a 1990 honda civic does not have a bypass circuit, i replaced the bit of wiring and i have driven the car for 6 yaers reletively trouble free. could be a brain scratcher though...

i would change your fuel filter, and also check if you have not all of your spark plugs. also if you are confident in your ability to work on it then maybe try putting in some new fuel injectors. also another thing i would check is the compression.

Check your TFI module, there should be instructions online, very common part to fail on those cars.
