All of these questions and answers I have been reading it seems as though if one is an Athiest, they are an assumed Satanist. I had a friend who was an Athiest, but did not worship Satan either. I am a Christian but I can see that one does not automatically = the other. Why do people assume that if you choose not to believe in MY God, that you believe in Satan?

Atheist=belief in no god
Satanist=belief in Satan/an evil "god".

Easy enough to figure out.

I'd say a lot of people would like to throw atheists and satanists in the same bucket, but they're really not the same thing.

Though some people assume that if you're not for God, you're for the Devil.

Which isn't true.

Edit--forgot about the "Church of Satan", which is technically atheist, though they do ceremonial magic. Not sure how that's supposed to work with no supernatural...but whatever. They can do their own lame thing, no problem.

I don't know about others but I see satanism as making Satan their God. Atheists do not believe in God or Satan. However they do have a god in their life whether it is themselves money or something else. Whatever is placed as most important in your life rules you and your decisions.
As for the last question. I believe that their are demons as well as satan creating religions since they turned from God. So the gods they worship are demons or simply stone to me. But I never assume anyone is actually worshiping satan unless they say.

I have never assumed that an atheist was a satanist! I am under the belief that atheist don't believe in God or Satan or any other God for that matter.I think that atheists are mostly very bullheaded and stubborn.But that doesn't mean that they worship Satan!

Because they are unwilling to open their minds to anything outside of their little box. I have an uncle that's atheist. He's a great guy, and a very loving and caring father and husband. He may not have the same faith structure we do, but that is OK with us. We don't try to convert him, and yet he allows us to feel and practice our faith as we see fit. He has even attended some of his children's events for church, and hasn't complained about going. He doesn't believe in God, Christ or Satan. He doesn't worship anything.

On the same note though, a lot of people think we worship satan in our religion. We don't. We do believe in him, but we don't worship him.

I think in every faith, there is something different, even among all Christian sects. To say that one is right and one is wrong is being very judgmental. I don't have the right to judge someone for what they think or what they believe. It won't hurt me any to just let them believe it.

Many "satanists" are atheists that like to parody Christianity and are not truly engaged in devil worship (as they believe satan is fictional) I think this is part of the confusion. Also certain types of fundamentalists think everything not of their church is of satan (ex. calling the Pope the anti-christ) and these people will continue to say atheists are satanists no matter what you tell them

Atheists simply don't believe in any deity or deities. Now there are two forms of Satanism. There's the Theistic form which views Satan as an actual deity. Then there's LaVeyan Satanism which is pretty much Atheistic in terms of that they don't worship or even believe in an actual Satan. With this form of Satanism Satan is seen as purely symbolic and in this form of Satanism it's more like self worship.

Technically, LaVeyan Satanists ARE Atheists - they do not believe in a Deity or a God. "Satan" is not an individual entity, rather the archetypical representation of their ideals and emotions.

Important to note, though - while all LaVeyan Satanists are technically Atheists, not all Atheists are LaVeyan Satanists.

An athiest by definition wouldn't believe in Satan.

Most Christers are of the opinion that Athiests are going to hell so in their narrow view, by default, athiests are satan worshipers.
