God did not "let" Eve and then Adam eat from the tree of knowledge. God warned Adam and Eve that the tree was reserved and that they should not eat from the tree. A syllogism for "ignorance is bliss". Hence, by not eating from the tree of knowledge, Adam and Eve were innocent and had no foreknowledge of good or evil. They were simply born of free will in a paradise called "Eden".
It was a jealous and scheming Lucifer who appeared as the bejeweled snake and, taking advantage of her gullibility, induced Eve to eat from the tree. She in turn, convinced Adam to eat.
Then they realized they were naked and ... were caught.
It was the first sin, biblically speaking, for Adam, Even and Lucifer.
Adam and Eve were cast from the garden. In a later chapter, Ezekial I think, Lucifer "shines" like the star from the East, and in his pride, rebels against God. He is cast from God's mountain into the fierce pit, and 1/3rd of the angels, now demons, were cast down to join him.
The Old Testament is nothing more than a collection of tales and stories, some historically correct and verifiable. The rest merely analogies and parables.
Those who take it literally at its word are called "extremists".
All bibles are written by humans, who are not perfect. And like all stories, they tend to get whackier over time.
Its not a joke. But I wouldn't take any bible too seriously.
Take God seriously. All God wants is everybody to be good to one another. That's all. The rest of it is all ancient, rusted crud. A curiosity, call it art, call it fiction. Whatever.

I am so very tired of people abusing Yahoo Answers. The only questions posed here are clearly rhetorical and only serve to further your Christian bashing. You fail to make any points that actually support your claims that the Bible is merely a book of folk tales. God gave humanity free will. If He were to have prevented Adam and Eve from committing that original sin then they clearly wouldn't have had free will. Jesus is one with God and therefore has always existed so your claims that had there been no sin then there would be no Jesus have no validity whatsoever. If you were to have read even a small portion of the Bible and been paying attention then you would have known that Moses wrote the Pentateuch as God dictated it to him. You are the only person claiming that God needed a rib from Adam in order to create Eve and your claim has no Biblical basis. God felt like making Eve out of a rib the same way that one of us might feel like taking an alternate route while driving to the grocery store than the route that one would normally take to get there. You cannot claim that there is an omnipotent being that created the universe yet claim that the same omnipotent being is unable to tell a man to write something down.
The next time that you feel like abusing Yahoo Answers to do some Bible bashing I suggest that you try to have some sort of reasoning behind your claims. I can honestly say that you are not the brightest bulb in the box.

Be aware that the Bible is a religious CANNON. No, that's not a big gun that fires a cannon ball. It means that the church men, about years 400 AFTER CHRIST, decided which works would go into the cannon, and which would be discarded.
Does that make the bible false. Not necessarily. It's hard to say that we appreciate the full context of things, though. The VAST MAJORITY of material was discarded. The parts that were omitted were outlawed and the copies burned, along with anyone caught possessing them.
Check out the Gnostic gospels and Gnosticism. You may be surprised what comes under the heading of Christianity. Or at least how it started out.

This is what sometimes happens when people do not really acquaint themselves with the Bible. How can you have such a strong opinion about a book you have never really read?
For had you truly read the Bible, you would realize that it does not say God knows all. Had you truly read the Bible, you would realize that God did not know they would eat from the tree. Had you truly read the Bible, you would realize that God did not "need" to create a woman from a rib.
You say "God is real no doubt in my mind." What leads you to believe there is a god? What? The universe? Life on earth? The complexity of life at the molecular level? The complexity of life at the macroscopic level? The tantalizing way in which all life is delicately interconnected? What?
Do you think it is reasonable to believe that a God of such magnitude would not communicate with his human creation? And this God in whom you believe - how do you think he feels hearing you call people morons simply because they have a belief of which you have but a dim understanding?

Ask yourself this question. If you were God, would you want people to have to love you? Would they really love you if they had to? God has given man free will from the beginning. Man chose to disobey, God didn't make man disobey. I am sorry that you have such a low opinion of God and His word. But look at it all this way. If you are right and you die, then it is all over. But if we Christians are right, what will happen to you when you die. The choice is yours. God gives you free will to choose as you desire. I pray you make the right choice.

I don't believe that the bible is a load of crock but I do think that if we try and ask it to give us scientific answers then we are asking the wrong questions of the bible. For me the bible is about relationships, and in particular about God's relationship with humans. If God made humans and then told them to behave in a certain way he wouldn't have allowed us to have free choice to decide if we wanted to have a relationship with him, it would be like he had simply created robots. Personally I would rather have a relationship with God and learn more about him through the bible and prayer than be an atomaton who loves God because he made me!

LOL, just because YOU can "honestly" say it doesn't make it so. It is just your belief as it is the belief to others that you are wrong. Why would you believe God exists then, when the only thing saying so is the very book you despise?

the reason god let Adam and Eve eat the forbidden fruit was so that they would have a knowledge of good and evil. the reason they were able to was because of free agency which is one of our gifts from god. it was necessary that they ate of the fruit because they needed a knowledge of good and evil to be able to fill the earth with their children. and god knew that they would eat of the fruit but it was necessary for his plan to be fulfilled.

You have a free will like Adam and Eve, why does God let you to make a mistake? Because the perfect love comes with a choice. You have a choice to make. : )
