Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic, progressive and disabling auto-immune disease. It is an incredibly painful condition, can cause severe disability (this varies between individuals and depends on how severe/aggressive your disease is) and ultimately affects a person’s ability to carry out everyday tasks. The disease can progress very rapidly (again the speed of progression varies widely between individuals), causing swelling and damaging cartilage and bone around the joints. Any joint may be affected but it is commonly the hands, feet and wrists. It is a systemic, disease which means that it can affect the whole body and internal organs (although this is not the case for everyone with RA) such as the lungs, heart and eyes.

I've enclosed a link where you can find out more information at about this condition and the latest treatments.

I've had rheumatoid arthritis since I was 1. I am 21 now. Well I started to walk a little bit before my 1st birthday and then all of a sudden I stopped walking. My mom and dad wondered why that was, because I would never cry because I was hurting or nothing. So, they took me to the doctors. No doctor was able to diagnose what was wrong until.... well it took them a long time (i forgot how long my mom said). So finally they knew what was wrong with me and told my mom and dad that I was never going to walk again because my joints were damaged (whatever). Anyways they tried to put me on steroids and all this crap. And of course that wasn't gonna fly with my parents. Well getting to the point... A few times while growing up I would wake up with my joints locked in my knees, they would get so stiff during the night I was un able to get out of bed and walk normally until i tried stretching and walking (soooo much pain). I actually am suffering from an inflammed knee right now. and my arthritis has not acted up on me like this for years . My joints in 2 of my fingers are damaged my ring finger looks like it's bent. I don't have any range of motion in my wrists can't bend them back (that's were the pain sometimes comes and goes more often than the knees). Basically I am just a little over weight so that can definantly cause some problems, my mom told me to stop drinking beer if I am, so that can be a problem, I guess dairy can cause a problem. But anyways, It comes and goes sometimes It can stay for a long time and sometimes you won't have pain forever. But when you get the crazy weather change from 80 degree wheather to 30 degree wheather overnight, thats when youre most likely going to be in pain. Well sorry about the big long speil but I figured this might give ya some info.

I have had RA since I was 17 years old, it comes and goes. The best thing is to go to a Rheumatologist. Follow his regime on meds and more importantly exercise. RA is inflamation of the joints and it never goes away. There is NO cure, though several drugs have been known to put it into remission for log periods of time. I took gold shots for 3 years and enjoyed freedom from RA for several years. I am currently on many drugs for RA including one that is a chemo drug that will hopefully put it back into remission. Also try contacting the Arthritis foundation they are great sources of info.
