For my wedding my dad picked it and it was a total surprise. My husband was from the midwest, so it was clear we would be moving there after he got out of the Marine Corps. He picked Unforgettable by Nat King Cole, it was a special way of him telling me in his own way how he felt since he didnt "give me away" (he walked me down the isle, but there was no "who gives this woman" deal). I also chose the last dance and gave it to him (it was I Left My Heart in San Francisco) to do the same.

It was nice to have a surprise and it was really emotional. I just all depends on what you want. Good Luck!

I picked a few, but only played one, when I played it for him he cried and I knew that was our song. I only did it because my dad isnt an avid music fan or computer user, so I dont know where he would find a song. My sister asked him to choose a song for their dance and he immediately called me for ideas, he's just not into music.

BTW, we used "Father and Daughter" by Paul Simon and My sister and he danced to "What a Wonderful World", but their chosen song was Judy Collins version of "In My Life" (They didnt get to use the song they wanted because her husband and his mom wound up dancing at the same time as them)

Don't know if mom is around but you should ask a woman close to your father what his favorite mushy song is and learn it. The best present in the world a daughter can give to her father is to share something that he is passionate about. Like say his first true love and he had this song they would listen to at night before they went to sleep on the telephone... If you played it and learned all the words you would not only surprise him but show him how much you truly care about him and what concerns him. That dance is ALL about thanking Daddy for paying for the wedding as well as the opportunity to SHOW OFF his beautiful daughter to all the people he cares about.

I don't think there are any rules about picking songs for your wedding/ reception- it is 2007....it is Your reception..I think it would be sweet if you let your Dad choose...it's a special day for him too, remember you won't be his baby girl anymore

You pick the song..I surprised my dad with a really nice song. Plus, I don't know if I'd trust my dad to pick a song!

If I let my dad pick, we'd be dancing to Tom Petty or something. LOL

You can talk to him about it. My dad just said he's a bad dancer and didn't want to be on the floor swaying side to side for 5 minutes.

We're dancing to My GIrl.

Good luck!

I put a list together of 4 songs and made a CD so he could hear them...I let him pick the one that he liked the most...It's his moment as much as mine....

It would be his honor to pick the song. That's a great idea!

I suggest doing it together or surprising him with a song that expresses how you feel about your relationship as father and daughter.

Here are some song suggestions:

Good luck.
