Sin is “any want of conformity unto or transgression of the law of God” (1Jo_3:4; Rom_4:15), in the inward state and habit of the soul, as well as in the outward conduct of the life, whether by omission or commission (Rom_6:12-17; Rom_7:5-24).

Sin is not a mere violation of the law of our constitution, nor of the system of things, but an offense against a personal lawgiver and moral governor who vindicates his law with penalties.

Without looking in a dictionary, I would define sin as an act of defiance against God. Thus, anything that would be displeasing to God would be sin.

In archery the word sin means that the arrow has missed the target or fallen short. I think sin means that we as humans have missed the target, or fallen short of what we could acheive if we were able to follow God 100%

Classically speaking, it is a term borrowed from archery, middle English. It meant, quite simply, to miss the mark. As it has been applied theologically, it is anything contrary to the revealed will of God, or anything which your conscience tells you is wrong whether or not it is explicitly spelled out in scripture. Unfortunately, the conscience is a notoriously bad guide since it is often silent when it ought to condemn, and loud when it ought to be silent.

What is the defination of Sin? This is the biblical definition of sin.

"Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law." 1st John 3:4

It is man not holding to the standards which are set by God.

sin literally means to miss the mark as in archery. I belive biblical writers were using the term to mean a mistake. I belive that sins are simple mistakes in life, things that are not truly meant to be harmfull to yourself or others but you're not getting the point. then there are crimes such as rape, murder, incest and slander among others. these are harmfull to others, yourself and the light and these are the things that bring about divine retribution.

Literally the word sin means to fall short or to miss the mark. The mark or target is the holiness of God, so any action or attitude of ours that falls short of or misses the target of His holiness is sin.

Sin is anything that happens outside of the nature of God.
His nature is reflected to us generally through the ten commandments, and detail is added throughout the bible.

Anything God calls sin is something that is outside his character and nature.

KOISTAN,
For me "sin" is the act of disobedience of the three laws of God, or the laws of Nature, that are:
1. Love God above all things.
2. Love your neighbour.
3. Love yourself.

No one could or will obey all three them all the time.
Only Jesus did.
That is why He never sinned.
That is why He is the perfect Lamb.

Sin is seperation from God. Simply if you turn on the light in a dark room, darkness escapes. Likwise, sin is an escape from God who is the "light' of the world.
