Is that somehow supposed to convince us that your (un)belief is a better way to go? Why would I want to be condescending and hateful?

They don't go after just Christians. They go after everyone. They also don't really insult as much as mock a faith.

I am neither atheist nor christian. As an objective observer who has been here awhile, I can say without question that the insults, condescension and hatefulness come more from the christians than from all other beliefs and non-beliefs combined here in R&S.
I've never seen such a large group of people who behave so badly in my entire life. If this is what you want to show as a witness, I wonder how pleased your god is with you.

How do you know it is not the vocal minority of atheists which insults you?

Fundamentalists Christians have taken a political stand lately, trying to push creationism and intelligent design into schools. They are also instrumental in supporting the perpetual state of war in Israel by supporting AIPAC, although their point of vue is to hasten the rapture and second coming of christ. They oppose sexual education and use of condoms to prevent AIDS among youth. For these reasons and many more people are getting fed up with religion. Most do this silently, but some become vocal and need to express loudly their views.

Most atheists don't mock or insult anyone who asks a serious, well worded question. If the question is obviously designed to provoke, is rude or insulting....well, why shouldn't we respond in kind? Unlike christians, we aren't required to turn the other cheek.
Also, something isn't necessarily insulting just because you don't believe it is true. You should realize that disagreeing with you isn't necessarily a personal attack, just me stating my opinion.
ALSO, if your fellow christians would learn to spell and use proper grammer, it wouldn't be so tempting to make fun of them. Your post is fine, but some of them just beg for mockery. It is hard to respect someone who doesn't present their argument clearly and doesn't care how they appear to the rest of the world. Grammer and spelling mistakes are like going out with your clothes unkempt and your hair uncombed and expecting people to take you seriously.

I have been waiting for this question. I heard a tape by Thomas Merton yesterday. He tells the story of a Sufi master and a Seeker who is searching for truth. He said the Seeker is searching with his mind and will come to a point of either becoming very angry and against religion or a religious fanatic. So you see both are same coin, different sides. Both the Atheist and the fanatic come at religion from their mind. Both base their views on 'faith'. Then they get into this fight to the death struggle with each other. You have to let go of all that you know about God, (or about the absence of God) and approach Truth with your heart in an existential experience. And then you will know the truth. The experience will be something that is different than anything that you have ever know, and this will tell you in the depth of your soul that God exist. Not by faith, but by experience of God's presence.

Why do Christians get insulted when Atheists ask about their beliefs without personally insulting them.

Usually, it's the other way around in my point of view because a lot of Christians put down atheists saying that "they are going to hell" and all that crap. No one's belief is better than the oher so why complain about it. Worry about your own belief than the next person. Got that all you religious freaks out there.

Check my answers, and I'll apologise if you can find an insult there.

And to keep it even, yes, I have seen stupid and insulting questions and answers coming from all sides. (I can't be sure, but it's my impression that the Buddhists may be an honourable exception to that.)

Edit: As an atheist I find...
"This book I have in front of me is a joke, and all who believe in it are retards."
...unacceptable and embarrassing.
Do you have one or two on your side where you feel their quiet disposal might improve your case, or at least the public face of it?

unfortunately there will always be people that do not believe what they can "see"... I see God everyday in everything I do. I would rather live my life believing in God and Heaven only to die and find out I was wrong, than to live as if He was not real and find out too late that He is...... I would not want to spend all of eternity away from my Creator and Savior... I guess all we can do is pray for those with different beliefs than our own to not be so cruel and ridiculing. (not that they all are, I have seen some people call themselves Christians and be just as cruel... how does one justify that?)

I have no idea why christians are condescending and hateful. I also have no idea why christians see 'disagreement' as 'insult'. Why do most christians here do nothing but insult everyone that doesn't believe as they do?

The first answerer is a perfect example of christian "love".....that persuades me to say "no thank you" yet again.
