Ive tried Zoloft Abilify Prozac, Wellbutrin (XL and CR). What actually worked the best for me is one that I cannot even get now, as I live overseas for the next 3 years. Wellbutrin XL. Other than that it's been a constant struggle to find the best medication, and when I thought I had found the correct one, My husband up and had to move! I've been searching for almost 10 years since I was diagnosed, and I don't think it ever ends. Just as you age and things in life change, so will your meds. Good luck in finding one that works for you. It can definitely be a struggle!

I never found the best one. I am Bi-polar and have been taking Effexor for 6 years. I am currently off all medications, due to a comedy of errors, and feel very little difference after the first few weeks. I have been on wellbutrin, amitriptyline, lithium, 3 cross prescribed anti-seizure, meds for OCD and a host of others. On the wellbutrin I had constant headaches, I couldn't get a good nights sleep on the lithium because I was up every hour going to the bathroom and the nausea was incredible. Amitriptyline made me manic all the time and did nothing for some of my anxiety issues. Most of the anti- seizure drugs seemed to counter act the mood stabilizers. I do seem to have success with 2 OTC drugs right now, Relacore and Benadryl. Yes a diet pill and an anti-histamine. Both would be working much better if my AC was working (I live in AZ)

I have been on several over the years and Effexor works the best for me. I have tried Paxil years ago before Effexor was around, Zolft, Wellbutrin I think Lexapro. About 6 months ago I asked my Dr. to put me on Cymbalta that was a mess. So I went back to Effexor and all is well. I also use xanax if I need it for anxiety which isn't much anymore. It's kind of hit & miss you have to see with your Dr. which one you feel the best on.

I've been on Prozac, steraline and ciprelex and am still searching, Prozac worked the first time I had PND but after that course never did again the other didn't work at all, I have to wait on the waiting list for the psychiatrist as my GP won't prescribe anymore until I'm seen by a specialist. I don't think SSRI'S are as potent as Prozac I was on 60mgs in the summer and was just numb didn't help my mood at all.
Good luck

I have been taking Zoloft for eleven years. It works for me. In the past I tried three other antidepressants. They did not work nearly as well.
Keep trying. I bet I haven't felt depressed more than two minutes in the past 11 years.

Cymbalta works best for me. But, it takes a good month to get used to.
