Why can't we all be right?? You believe in a Christian God..good for you. I believe in the possibility of God..God's..Goddess'..good for me. He believes in No God...good for him. Some of us are under educated...some educated..and some over educated. We are all good and decent people..trying to live our lives as best as we can. Why can't we meet in the freekin middle and just accept each other?? The things we each believe may be different..odd..strange..weird...unbelievable...but if we give each other a chance couldn't we just get over ourselves???
And let Goodness and Rightness be our common denominator?? Can you be that open??? Or NOT??
Please state your answer and your faith.

There are those over-educated. Ones who do NOTHING but educate themselves..it becomes their religion. The are so busy learning..they do not live.

10 minutes in and it's 50/50. 75% of the inability coming from someone WITH religion.

I'm Catholic. I don't push anyone to be Catholic. One of my best friends is an Atheist and we get along fine. We just don't talk about religion very much lol.

It's just people judging other people because of their beliefs because they are probably uncomfortable with themselves. Of course, I could be wrong.

It's just sad that we are in the year 2007 and people are fighting and dying over religion and everything else. We should not be dying because of what religion we have, we should be living for the common knowledge that everyone deserves to be happy and live in a peaceful world.

Maybe one day that will come. But there probably won't be a day where there isn't any conflict anywhere in the world.

Why can't we all be right? There are very good reasons we cannot all be right. You go to a store. You buy items. You hand the cashier a twenty for your $15.00 worth of items. She tells you that it's a five. The person in the line next to you says it's a one dollar bill. Now, reasonably, all three of you cannot be right, can you?

Now if there is truth in something as comparatively mundane as money denominations, how much more so is there only one truth when it comes to worshiping God?

We do not say everybody is right when it comes to whether murder is acceptable, do we? We do not say everybody is right when it comes to whether child abuse is acceptable, do we? We do not say everybody is right when it comes to whether domestic abuse is acceptable, do we?

There is a standard by which we measure acceptable denominations of money. There has to be a standard or we'd be printing our own.

There must be a standard when it comes to traffic regulations. Or else we'd all be driving willy nilly at whatever speed, running through whatever intersections without guidance from road markers, lights and stop signs.

It is no different when it comes to God. There must be a standard. That standard must be put in place by one who has the right to set it and the authority to enforce it. Yes? Now we don't have a problem with the standard when it comes to murder and child abuse. Neither should we have a problem when it comes to worship. Either that worship is based on what God requires or it is not.

Either we have a soul or we are a soul. Either fornication is wrong or it is not. Either God is going to destroy earth or he is not. Either he is going to torment people everlastingly in an agonizing hell or he is not.

If, as you say, we are all trying to live our lives as best we can, we should be trying to meet a proper criteria. I agree that goodness and rightness should be a common denominator. But, who is it that shall determine what is good and what is right? Do you see? We need a standard. Who sets the standard?

I think everyone's got a right to their opinion as long as their opinion doesn't infringe on my life, if that makes sense. Like, I am a woman who loves a woman. I don't think I have to live by conservative Christian beliefs against homosexuality and not be able to get married, but I do think a pastor has a right not to officiate at a same-sex wedding and a person has a right not to attend it. It would be very nice if we could recognize each others' common humanity, and sometimes we do get to see glimpses of that here, which is wonderful.

People spend their time trying to prove their way of life right because being right =being powerful....and power is what humans crave the most.
I am not sure what my faith is. I believe in a creator but I also believe that religion is just a play for power and we all live our own realities...all have our own spiritual journey to take.

I understand your question and thank you for your eloquence. If we are to let goodness and rightness prevail then what my faith is becomes irrelavent. That I have faith at all says I am meeting you in the middle because I have faith in what you say. It is the "idea" and or honesty of what you suggest I find comfort in. That's all I need. Moving on!

How can one be over educated? That seems impossible, to have achieved a level of too much learning.

Back to the intent of your question, I disagree.

I am an atheist, and for me to be okay with my leaders basing their policies and actions upon a myth is beyond unacceptable. I may not be changing the mind of anyone here, but I shall not remain silent for the benefit of the ignorant and obtuse. I will remain a proponent for truth and all that is righteous, but I need not accept or respect the lies of others in order for me to do so.

Because no one wants to be the wrong one. That is why they won't leave it alone.
