I had a close friend who was a Christian that decided, unfortunately, to end his life recently. I have heard many claims from that suicides do not go to heaven because they cannot ask forgiveness for that sin, as they are dead after committing it. What does the Bible say, this has been really bothering me to hear everyone say that this person is in hell right now.

no, your Salvation is for REAL. It is not based on a mood, or how you die.

I am a Christian too, and I am actually embarrased that I do not know where to look in the Bible for that answer.

I hope if you need proof, someone can show you the verse(s).

Also:
The logic of that is: if you died after lying, before you had time to confess and ask forgiveness, would you go to HE77? No and remember God views all sin equally.

I too lost someone close to suicide several years ago. And the hurt never goes away. And yes, I heard the same things. I do know my friend did accept Christ as her Savior and loved the Lord. She suffered from severe depression and mental illness. If your friend accepted Christ as his Savior and served the Lord, I BELIEVE that he is in Heaven.
Romans 10:9(NIV) That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

A person cant lose their salvation. But God did give us Free Will . He doesnt take it away once we are saved. I believe we have to choose each day to serve God. If a person is mentally ill or chemically imbalanced, I dont THINK God would hold suicide against them, if they are truly a Christian. Is suicide a sin?, yes, is it the ultimate sin?, NO. The ultimate sin is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

Mark 3: 28-29 (NIV) I tell you the truth, all the sins and blaspemies of men will be forgiven them. 29: But whoever blaspemies against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin.

I am so sorry for your loss and definitely feel your pain. When my friend CHOSE to end her life.(Free Will), I had so many What ifs... But I do know now that there was NOTHING I could have done to prevent this. She had already made up her mind.
Sadly to say and I feel terrible saying this but I am a better person now.. This incident changed my life immensely. I am more in tuned to people feelings and i am more compassionate, etc. and most of all, I have a closer walk with the Lord. And i pray...pray...pray for my loved ones and friends. And I will also pray that God will give you peace that only God can give... And I will pray that if you dont know Christ as Lord and Savior that you will accept him now into your life. In Jesus Name, Amen

I had a pastor who I loved dearly(he died in a car accident a few years ago) comment on suicide. He said that no one can know what happened in the last few moments of someone's life who committed suicide. He performed the funeral services for many people through his years of service and a few of them were people who had committed suicide. I think he had a good point of view on the subject and I believe that God knows what is in someone's heart and I believe that if you are saved you go to heaven. I would not presume to know what God would ultimately decide on this subject because I cannot recall any scripture concerning suicide. If anyone has any it might be helpful. I am very sorry for the loss of your friend and I hope this might provide some comfort.

My friend's brother was tormented by many demons and if I recall correctly he was mentally ill. After he committed suicide my friend had a dream where he told her not to cry for him anymore that he was in a much better place now. That is the belief that many have that people who commit suicide 'automatically' go to hell, but who are we to say this, for God is the only one who knows the heart of man.

A friend of mine just died recently too, and i know it is hard to hear things like that. Suicide is a sin, God washed away all our sins on the cross, plus god knew your friends suffering better than any one else did. I know it's hard, but you just have to believe that God is a God of mercy and try not to worry about were your friend is, because ultimately we don't know peoples heart like god does. You never know, your friend could be in god's arms right now..... don't listen to people who only have negative things to say, let this difficult experience make you a better person.

The lord says "Whosoever shall call upon my name JESUS, shall be saved" That means if your friend had time, with their last breath and ask for forgiveness while dying than there is a chance they made it. God says i am a merciful God. Many of us do not know the depths of Gods love. Don't doubt but have hope with your friends last breathe that he or she said JESUS.
I too lost someone to suicide, and i know how hard it is to overcome the what if's in your mind. What's done is done, just hope they made it. Regardless what ppl say.

Not automatically.
Those that are Christian (you know, prayed to accept the gift of Salvation through the sacrifice of Jesus, then prayed to ask forgiveness for sins) go to heaven. This is your friend. He's in heaven right now.

Those that are not Christian stay dead until Judgment Day, when they are judged. The bad ones are chucked into a lake of fire. Presumably the good ones go to heaven. Read Revelations.

Hi Licia, look regardless of what anyone thinks we do not really know were we will go after our death this is God`s decision and no-one has the authority to condemn anyone else to Hell, each persons faith is known to God alone and even those who have commited suicide will have done good things in life that God will take into account.
It is just as well that we do not have the power or authority to send others to Hell because it wouldn`t half be over-crowded.

I lost a cousin this way. But. My belief is that we make the choice to be here. Think of it as a contract with God. We're allowed to be here by free will, but not allowed to decide when we go, that's his job. I believe that after a suicide you have no choice but to come back and lead a suicide free life to satisfy the agreement you made. So, with the way I feel that it works, his soul is part of a new baby, starting his new life. The God I believe in is always willing to give us another chance, not punish his children for a moment of weakness, but he will hold us responsible for our mistakes.
