Everyone seems to be on a feeding frenzy to imitate a particular life style that they see on the TV and in magazines. That gas guzzling 4x4, and giant plasma TV thats almost bigger than the living room wall, the dolce and gabbana dress that Paris Hilton was wearing, the surfboard abs and dazzling teeth.
We are consuming so much our rubbish is literally bursting out of Landfill sites, and our food and water is full of chemicals and pollutants from all the industrial processes that take place to maintain and expand our ever demanding lifestyles. In the pursuit of our own desires have we forsaken the community spirit that once bound our communities together? Is this really progress ? Or the beginning of the demise of the human civilisation?

Yes, and it's all due to god belief.
Civilization is founded upon Science not religion. When religion interferes with Science as it has been doing for many years now, that impedes real knowledge and advancement. With a suppression of scientific advancement coupled with a regression into ancient religious dogma you have an automatic decline of civilization.

Like every ancient civilizations that have all the splendors and glorious life that ended like a balloon bursting when it reaches it's peak so that another beginning will emerge. Just as the earth spins and revolves around the sun, we are part of that endless cycle of life we call birth, death and rebirth.

i see it as a crisis in civilisation rather than a decline. We are seeing big problems with the way we have been behaving and now we have the chance to change and make ourselves better.
Or we could keep doing what we are doing...(and then all your dour predictions might come true)
I tend to believe in things getting better.

In that we are destroying our planet, possibly. But we do have the opportunity, hopefully, to rectify that.
None of thie implies that civilisation is on the decline, but merely that civilisation needs to do a bit more to protect our habitat.
