All any of them had to say was that Jesus did not rise from the dead and they would of been set free and treated like kings.
Did they die for a dead man?

Good point. And for the guy posting about Jim Jones, I've watched a documentary on it, with real video footage from when everyone died, they had a line of like 200 kids crying, because they didn't want to drink the juice, but one by one someone held their mouths open and another poured it in. Same with many of the adults. Most of them -DIDN'T- want to die. They didn't have a way out, anyway, if they would have tried to leave before (which many wanted to) they would have been killed. They were prisoners, COMPLETELY different from the apostles following Christ.

Jesus says I am alive and well, and for those who do not believe will have their part in hell. There you shall remain a true dead soul. Jesus did not come to condemn the world but to save the souls of this earth. If you one day wake up and choose to give your life to JESUS than you will know that HE is alive and well.

Good question....

I think it is a bit of a stretch to state that they would have been treated like kings. They were criminal according to Roman law and heritics according to jewish custom. I would be surprised if Steven said "OK, Ok, its all hogwash" that Saul would have then invited him home and given him a royal robe.

But they may have been able to recant their beliefs earlier on in order to avoid death. The truth is that they all believed with all their hearts that Jesus was the Messiah. That is the only reason for the choice of death over recanting.

However, just because some middle eastern men chose death over changing a belief system, doesn't prove that the belief is truth. If that were the case, Christians would have to choose to convert to radical Islam, in the name of the many recent martyrs in that religion. The men that are strapping bombs to themselves and dieing in the name of Allah, have just as much conviction as the early apostles.

They died for a Savior that rose from the dead and is alive at the right hand of the Father in Heaven.

The bible only mentions two dieing. The deaths of the rest are just Church traditions and the stories exist in conflicting versions. Jesus never existed, the apostles are fakes and the new testament gospels are pure mythology.

It is quite a statement, in my view. And they weren't the only ones to die for this simple faith. I don't know why anyone would die for a liar, let alone 11 men.

They didn't die for a liar. They weren't coerced, forced or bribed. They chose to sacrifice their lives for their chosen King.

------

sansfear - they weren't breaking Roman law. They weren't considered heretical by all Jews.

They died for their faith.
And because GOD demands that we proclaim his name and hold true to his teachings.

If we deny the existance of GOD.... He will deny ours!

They died because they beleived in what they were saying. And they were strong enough not to "Cop Out" just because things got tense.

If only people these days were so strong!

They did not die for a dead man..... They died for their faith in Jesus Christ

Actually, the "13th Apostle", Paul of Tarsus (who wrote much of the New Testament) died in Christ's name as well.

As for the 12th apostle, he died while in prision on behalf of his faith.
