Why does everyone hate the IRS? I don't get it.

There was this person complaining on here earlier about having an online business that crashed in 2000 along with alot of other companies and as a result, he has to pay the government extra money every year with interest because he owes them money he was unable to pay because he had to declare bankruptcy.

First off, if you go bankrupt, it's YOUR fault. No one else is to blame.

Secondly, the government needs that money to pay for schools and other programs. The IRS is a good thing.

I know that occasionally the IRS may fine people too much money and charge too much interest, but how do they expect people to pay them back if they don't take aggressive measures?

Also, if you have a business, you need to incorporate it. This guy didn't do that. It was his fault and to all the other whiners out there, I have one thing to say:

Shut up and pay the money and fines. It's YOUR fault for getting into debt.

What do you think?

I think you are a little hard. The guy lost money and the IRS wants their money?

The one thing I dislike about the IRS is that they don't have a system of checks and balances with them. All the other government agencies have some other agency regulating them, but the IRS pretty much has a free hand.

My quotes may be messed up, but was it Chief Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes that said," I don't mind taxes, they are the price we pay for civilization."

I don't mind them either and have always tried to pay my fair share, in fact, sometimes even more, since I may miss a deduction that I find after I have already filed.

If the IRS comes after you, they are like a rabid dog, they just keep coming and coming.

Knew a guy in business, had his wife as bookkeeper, she was running around on him and she was stealing the money, she also wasn't paying the taxes either. The IRS came and wanted to take his truck he used for his business. This poor guy was shafted all the way around. The IRS wants to take his equipment that he uses to make money to pay them and his wife took the money he had. The IRS should have given the guy a chance to repay them without stopping him from making a living.

That's what I think.

Your right except for the big picture. Our Country was set up as a less taxing government. Remember the Boston Tea Party? In history class... Our Taxing should be changed and equalized across the board making low income pay on the same rate as any Multi Zillionaire. Now if you make under a certain amount have kids and such our government has all those tax credits and more to where those really pay nothing but receive monies from the government for no just cause. If we all paid on an Equal basis then no one would really have a reason to complain.

where to start?.............the iRS is very messed up, that is thanks to Congress and the public which should raise hell with Congress. Guy above is right, few checks and balances in the IRS Collection Division. I told former IRS Commissioner Rosotti to his face that we were often letting people with huge unpaid tax debts get away with murder. He told me he didn't believe it. I TOLD him i had ACTUAL CASE write ups at my desk that prove what I say. His response?.............he looked around the room and asked for the next question. I still have the proof some 6 yrs later. I wrote to Senators, Bill OReilly etc, no one cares....WHY? because the public is not raising helll...and the public of course doe not understand/know what is going on. The IRS knows who i am and where i live, they can come and get me anytime if i am lying. HEH IRS COMMISSIONER how about you and i meet with a Senate Committee with TV cameras on? The IRS fox is guarding the IRS henhouse and the public payes more in taxes because the IRS is guilty of FRAUD, WASTE & ABUSE. I remain Bob Hedlund Cody., WY. Sorry, i trust it comes across this is a bit of a sore subject for me. Have a nice April 15th everyone.
