Well. A number of issues may arise here. I do agree that you have been screwed. But you may still be able to get your money back. Because even in a private sale you do have the right to 'correct description'. Also depends how much you paid for it. Best thing to do is call consumer direct on 08454 040506. Give them all the information about the purchase. I'm sure you'll get your money back. They will investigate and give you an answer straight away.

If you bought from a dealer, they have a duty to ensure it's roadworthy; if it's a private sale, I'm afraid there's little you can do. He'll just say he told you it was for spares, or something of the like. That's why it's vital to have an HPI check carried out before you buy.
It IS sometimes possible for a write-off to be repaired, it depends on what category it was written off into.
I'm sure we're all keeping everything crossed for you!
If you're out of luck, I would talk to a solicitor, they'll usually give you the first interview free.

i think you were sold a car illegally it should have been pointed out so take advice from the police and I'm sure they will tell you how to go about cornering this guy that sold it to you to get you cash back but confront him first and ask for return of money and if he refuses then tell him he might end up in court

It depends who you bought it from.
If you bought it privately, you have no legal rights - it was up to you to check the car out properly before you bought it.
However, if you bought it from a trader you have plenty of legal rights and should seek advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau, or a solicitor.

Where did you buy if from and how did you pay? I think its very unlikely if you paid cash for it nt sure where you are but you might be able to take it to the small claims court. Try askng your insuance company for any advice or go to local CAB Good luck hope it gets sorted

If you bought it from a car dealer, then you are entitled to your money back. If it was private sale you will have to get Legal Advice. Hope it works out for you.

you don't say where you purchased the car from, nor when so any advice about getting your money back is meaningless.

If it's an insurance write off i don't think it can be resold without you being informed it was a right off, get in touch with your local trading standards they should tell you exactly where you stand.
