I'm not that familiar with all the aspects of Paganism, but I do know that there are several groups of Gods and Goddesses that different practitioners follow.

I was wondering how some of the Pagans here chose their particular deities -- whether it has to do with the particular rituals/practices or if those deities just appeal to you over all the others.

Actually, it was more like they chose me. Maman Brigitte, from Vodoun, came to me in my dreams before I knew intellectually who She was. La Sirene (also a Vodoun Goddess) and Poseidon are of the sea, and I'm always comfortable and happy in the water. Athena just seemed to jump out at me when I read about her in a mythology book as a kid--I found myself wanting to pray to Her even though I grew up in a Christian home. I acknowledge many other Gods and Goddesses, too. Sometimes I don't even bother using names or images--"God of Sun, thank you for this day," "God of Rain, please spare my relatives," etc.

For me it was the deity that spoke to me in a sense, for me Poseidon was a right fit for me as God, and Aphrodite fits as goddess. For my husband Isis is his goddess, we do however when planning large rituals with many on different paths, lean towards more nameless deities as to encompass everyone in circle. Just listen with and open mind and heart the right God/Goddess for you will be made known

Blessed BE

They chose me. Then I chose to honor them and try to get to know them better.

hmm, im not sure i chose a god/dess(s), i believe i may be more of a druid, in games AND real life, i believe that nature is our creator, and that s/he is mortal, being harmed by our influence.
