ok, im not a christian, and i know the seven deadly sins, and heres a question, why are they so deadly?
1. Luxuria (later turned to lust) is it not wrong to live life to the fullest, and NOT think these thoughts?

2. Gula (gluttony) if you are not greedy, you will not survive, if you give everything away, you will suffer poverty, is there a way to live?

3.Avarita (greed) is there a difference between Gula and Avarita?

4. Acedia (Sloth) this is the only one of the sins i agree with, if you dont work for your pay/food, then you do not deserve to have it.

5. Ira (wrath) Isnt it proven that with-holding anger is bad for your health? and if you ventilate it in a healthy way, its still a sin!!

6. Invidia (envy) envy is something that is easily avoided, seclude your self away from the envied.

7. Superbia (pride) this is the one i am most upset with, dont your parents tell you to "take pride in your own work"? Why is this a sin? Is pride really that bad??

All of the following are per my interpretation of the Christian faith (an appropriate context, since the question you asked is from Christian doctine).

1) the purpose of life is not for one's own fulfillment, but to further the fulfillment of the Lord.

2. (to answer #3 below) Gluttony is the wallowing in physical pleasure, at the expense of spiritual matters. It is also the sin of taking more than you need. and...

3. You make an error of logic. It doesn't say that one should give up everything, it merely says one should not be greedy and attempt to acquire everything.

4. But this is more than money...this is laziness of the spirit as well.

5. Instead, one could learn to rid one's self of anger. And don't throw me some cliche about how we all feel anger--anger, and the display of it, are, like all emotions beyond paid, fear, and a basic kind of love, learned behavior. One can learn to not be wrathful of things. Also, too, this forbids wrath, which is far more extreme than anger.

6. Why should one spend emotions and energy desiring that which others have? Focus instead on fulfilling the plan...

7. Pride is bad when it denies the things that others have given you, making possible what you have accomplished. As an example, someone from a family-oriented culture (like Japan), would always credit his/her family with his/her success, because the belief is that everything good grows from the group. Christianity asks us to see that everything good we do has been, in part, enabled by God. Who can take pride in a homework assignment, when the assignment, the school, and you, yourself, are merely the whim of the God?

Please note that these answers are extremely brief, and contain flaws stemming partially from my lack of knowledge, and partially from the very short space in which we have to respond. Each individual point can be discussed at great length.

1. Lust is not good because it's desiring a woman/ man for sexual reasons only and is disrespectful of other people.

2. Gluttony is eating excessively and obviously that can have very harmful effects on your health.

3. Greed is wrong because it's desiring more than you need. It's okay to want things but when you are never satisfied then how happy will you ever truly be?

4. Sloth, being lazy is obviously not a desirable trait.

5. Wrath is more than anger, it's not a sin to be angry. It is a vengeful anger that does great harm to those around you.

6. Envy is wrong because it fills you with hatred for someone just because they have something that you don't.

7. Pride, this doesn't mean you can't be prideful of the things you do this means that you shouldn't be boastful, declaring to the world of the things that you have done and acting like it makes you better than someone else.

Hi, I believe these sins were singled out by the church because they can lead a person into addiction and darkness, they seem to be sins of self-centeredness and egoism, take Lust for example, it is very possible to lust after something so much that it consumes the person and drives thier every thought, this does not have to be sex only but getting hooked on porn is an example of that dark side that is adddictive.

properly, lust, gluttony, satisfaction sloth, and envy are undesirable, yet infrequently the worst, on the grounds that they actually purely impression the practicioner. I mean, if i'm green with envy, lustful, slothful, gluttonous, or prideful, purely i'm going to go through the outcomes (nevertheless they could be notably severe outcomes, in the tip). So that is between greed and wrath, the two one among which harm others beside the practicioner. Greed motives one to take what others have, and wrath motives one to harm others bodily. the two can carry approximately severe crimes against others ... yet i might would desire to bypass with greed, through fact wanting homicide, the victims of wrath would heal, however the victims of greed can lose each little thing they have. Yeah, I say "greed". Cheers.

Each is covered in the 10 Commandments. And besides that these sins will cut you off from God. That is why they are called "deadly". As for pride, God said "Here is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased". Pride as referred to in the negative sense means that you are carried away in love of self or accomplishments. Not giving God any credit for the blessings He has given you. To be well pleased, as He was with His Son, is the positive sort of "pride".

Curious how that all your replacements are actually in Latin. ( Latin isn't that old. Basque is older. Doesn't come from Indo European. ) It's a simple answer; there's two ways to look at life. How the rest of the rest of the world tells you to, and how The Book tells you. One you already have ingrained in you with varying, if dubious degrees of success. The other requires of you to dilligently turn it into a research project, with the proviso that you will be the only one that knows if success has been achieved. Assuming you are not intellectually dishonest.

Its simple. Thw chrsistion relgion thinks that everone who doesnt follow them goes to hell. Now what does that sound like. "Follow me or die" Exactly! It is a way to controll people. The catholic religion is just like a dictator ship. We have the supreme leader. Pope. And his minions. Bishops. This list shows everything of fun. They dont want us to have fun. They also want to controll us via religion saying "Hey if you have no fun in life ans swear your loyalty to us then you can have fun in the afterlife" HA dont make me laugh. One word!
Re-incarnation! Nuff' said!

Sin is sin... and seperates us from God... and that is why they are considered 'bad'

all those things take focus away from doing God's work... and following God's plan for our lives!

ok pride; if you take pride in your self it is good yet; if you are so full of pride that you believe that no matter what you do your source of pride justifies it ; that's bad.
