My fiance and I are not interested in spending $30,000 on a wedding reception. We live in Connecticut (which is expensive as it is) and were wondering if it would be more cost-effective to rent a tent (and, I guess, port-a-potties) and go with a great inexpensive caterer (we are not having a super formal wedding). Many of the local banquet halls in the area cost about $100/person (we have big families and are probably having a 200-250 person wedding).

It is most definitely less expensive to get a tent than an all inclusive. You just have to be prepared to be doing A LOT of running around and you'll probably be under a lot more stress. But some people would rather spend their money on other things. Weddings are expensive...and the most important thing is that it is what the two of you want.

Would really help if you told us your budget?? How about $20,000? That's what I am spending in NJ which is also $$$. We found a hall that is $65 a head, you bring in your own booze and they supply a cake and DJ. They also supply the decorations and all the little stuff like table numbers.
Depends on what type of wedding you want and how fancy. We priced the tents and port-a-potties and it came out to be more then $20,000 with a cater and then we had to find a place to put all this stuff!! (the cater actually wanted more do it there because no sink or clean up area for her) The hall is so much cheap and easier for us!! keep pricing and try theknot.com and get prices from other brides in your area!!!

A tent wedding reception will be less expensive than a banquet hall. You can find local caterers who will work with you within your budget. A good place to go for wedding savings information is http://www.wedding-savings-for-bride-groom.com

Oh I think the all inclusive weddings are a better deal, and usually they are very well coordinated. My first wedding was a tent wedding and it was just so disorganized and very expensive. You typically have to think of everything, from table linens, glass ware, lighting, the dance floor, trash receptacles, it just goes on and on and all adds up. Where do you live?

Where would you put this tent? Do you have to rent that space?
