we do, it's called IBA and has ceramic plates that stop most bullets (save for some armor-piercing).

The majority of people killed are from explosions. The reason there is a much larger wounded-to-killed ratio than in other wars is that our troops have excellent protection.

Sometimes, all the protection in the world isn't going to help if your card gets pulled.

We use it all the time. It is a requirement to go out into the city. we have front back and side plates and Kevlar pieces that cover our arms neck and groin. Trust me the stuff works too I have seen it stop AK rounds. Most of the vests that your local PD uses wont do that. As said before most the deaths are from the explosives on the road side not bullets. Also most injuries are to the legs and arms simply because it is not covered.

An order had to be given to wear the body armor. Some wouldn't wear the armor in Gulf War I and Gulf War II because it was hot and heavy.

Bullet Resistance for vests is one thing, but it seems to me the troops get blown up by roadside bombs and fools that think if they blow themselves up, that changes will be made socially. I think they are really dumb for doing that - and those that indoctrinate suicide bombers to do their thing - why don't the future suicide bombers ask why THEY are not blowing themselves up instead of teaching some follower to do it instead???
