In my neighborhood I can't distinguish the churches being built today from the gauche glass menagerie or stucco style office buildings in business parks

I think because the 'old style' churches are too expensive to build... with the brickwork and fancy woodwork, etc. Churches are expanding quickly these days (mostly those with Bible based teachings rather than man-invented doctrines) and in order to use the $$ of the church more wisely, they are going for the functionality rather than the asthetics of a building.... and using the funds for programs and missions more

The real church are the real people. the buildings you see are just halls where the churches meet. People have changed a lot in their life styles since the first temples were built. People change and the houses they live, the places they used to run around freely are no longer the same. Our concept of park before were open field where you can see either the field horizon, the sunset, sunrise, the mountains or the ocean. Now, you see them with added amenities in a much different view.
Church buildings changes in the concept of man that changes in passage of time. What is important is that you still recognize the presence of the One you worship in the midst of all the changing trends in life.

Churches today think they must become like everthing else to attract people. They have lost the fact that people are looking for something stable and true, not something that changes with the wind. I believe if you are a church than let the world know you are a church. That said a Church is the people not the building. Look inside and see if it is a real Church of The living God.

Yeah I agree with you on this, most of the newly built churches look as you say, like glass menageries, the excuse seems to be that the church must keep up with the modern times, but I for one prefer going into a church that looks like a proper church( like back in my childhood) and not some building that looks like it has been designed for Disney.

Some people want the church building to feel more friendly and open to the area. It also might be a building ordinance for an area.

We are looking at old warehouses to convert to a building for our church congregation to meet in.

It might draw more people to come to the church if the building looks more informal.

Because a church is not a building.

A church is the people who go to the building to fellowship together.

Don't worry about the looks on the outside, why don't most churches today stick to the BIBLE?!

I like the old style Church, that reaches to the heavens, a church should look like a church, it's God's house, sorta speak to welcome all.
