No, you can't use ketchup. You can go to a store near you in and buy Spaghetti Sauce. I hope I helped alot today. Have a nice day with your cooking.

You don't need either. If you let the water evaporate from the sauce, you'll have a richer taste

Try this one :

TOMATO SAUCE :
cans of whole peeled tomatoes
1 can of crushed tomatoes
onions (optional)
garlic cloves (optional)
carrots shredded very thin
thyme & bay leaves
celery salt
olive oil
salt & pepper

Put all this ingredients in a pot, on the stove on low heat and
let the sauce thiken for at least 1 hour and a half, stiring from times to times

You can but it might add too much sweetness to your sauce, so don't add too much of it. Rather just squirt in a little bit, taste and repeat as necessary.

Paste and ketchup are two different foods altogether.

Paste is not essential to a good sauce. If you let your sauce cook down & reduce in volume it will give you a more rich concentrated flavor.

I wouldn't recommend catsup because they've already altered that to make it catsup. If you've got tomatos, that would work much better, and then you can mash them up and toss in the Italian seasonings (basil, fennel, oregano, garlic, onion) to your heart's content until it tastes awesome, heat it until it's not very runny, and enjoy!

Go get the tomato paste. They sell it everywhere, even the convenience store.

Yes, just add enough water so it's sauce-like and lots of green herbs and some garlic.
