They are still contained in the Ark of the Covenant along with Aaron's staff. The question is, where is the Ark of the Covenant?

Some say it is still buried somewhere in Jerusalem. Some say that it might be hidden somewhere near Ethiopia. While others have claimed that it has been spotted near the Egyptian delta.

Which ones that Moses got?

Exodus 20:2-17 and Deuteronomy 5:6-21 both list what most people think of as the ten commandments. However, when Moses brought these down from Mt. Sinai he got irritated by the Israelites worshiping their new golden calf and smashed the tablets so he had to go up a second time.

The second time he got a second set of commandments which are listed in Exodus 34:12-26. These are the commandments that supposedly went into the ark of the covenant. It is not known if the ark survived the destruction of the temple. If it did, the location of the ark is unknown.

Actually the "original" 10 Commandments were the ones heard by all the Israelites. The voice of God was so terrible that they didn't want to hear any more so they sent Moses up the Mt. and he brought back tablets with the rest of the commandments. Then he became angry because they were already breaking one of the 10 they already had by building an idol. So, he through down the tablets he had and broke them. The people repented and he went up the Mt. again and brought back the Law which is in the first three books of the Old Testament and that is what was placed in the ark of the covenant.

Hi Calie, the original 10 commandments were smashed by Moses when He came down from Mt.Sinai and found that the people were worshipping the golden calf,he returned up the mountain and received another set of the commandments which were later placed into the holy box called the `Ark of the covenant along with the staff belonging to Moses`s brother Aaron, no one knows what happened to the Ark of the covenant and it has never been recovered.

In the Ark of the Covenant, that used to be in the temple in Jerusalem in the "Most Holy" - an area of the temple where no one could enter

However, the Ark disappeared when the temple was destroyed. It was likely hidden or destroyed by God himself. No trace of it has ever been found.

Unless you believe Indiana Jones and it's in some warehouse in Washington, D.C. ;-)

The ark of the covenant.

Deuteronomy 31:26 - Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee.

One set of the two tablets are in the gold ark of the covenent, the other set of two tablets are in the wood ark made by Moses. One theory is that they are buried under the Temple Mount in Jeruselem. Another theory is that they are buried in a cave on the mountain of God. I favor the cave.
