That's dumb. So God creates everyone, and says "now go around and kill each other as you want"?
I don't think so.

There were 613 commandments. 10 were heard by the people who feared the voice of God. Moses heard the others alone. Free will is what you exercise when you choose. Because God said it , most people will not follow. He knew all that would before man was ever created. This is predestination.
Predestination does not mean you don't have a choice, it means , God knew your choice.
No flesh is save by keeping the ten commandments. God knew that we could not and would not obey his law and gave us a Gospel of Grace through the Christ. Not perfect, just forgiven.

God did give everyone free will and the ten commandments. Your free will allows you to choose whether or not to obey/disobey the commandments given by God. The reason he gave the ten commandments is to give people instructions on how they should live. I mean if everyone thought it was ok to steal and kill everyone else it would be total anarchy. It is up to the person to obey them or not, they are still exercising their free will by making the choice to obey God's commands.
God gave us free will so we can choose what we want to do. We are totally responsible for any choices we make. We can choose to obey God's commandments or we can choose to disobey them. The question is are we willing to deal with the consequences from making choices that God told us are not right. But that is a totally separate question.

You can always choose NOT to obey the 10 Commandments. Also, the person who chooses to obey the 10 Commandments IS in fact using their free will because they are making a conscious choice. If we had no free will, then it would never cross our minds that stealing was an option.
I hope that makes sense....

"I do pretend to understand all of the ways of God or his particular timetable for grappling with evil. Perhaps if God dealt with evil in the overbearing way that we wish, he would defeat his ultimate purpose. We are responsible human beings not blind automatons; persons not puppets. By endowing us with freedom, God relinquished some of His own sovereignty and imposed certain limitations upon Himself. If His children are free, they must do His will by a voluntary choice. Therefore God cannot at the same time impose His will upon His children and also maintain His purpose for man. If through sheer omnipotence God were to defeat his purpose, He would express weakness rather than power. Power is the ability to fulfill purpose; action which defeats purpose is weakness."

The ten commandments are a basic guideline for living under God . The bible itself is a commandment on how we are to live under God. If we didn't have free will we would all be a bunch of robots , he wants to see how will we follow and serve him .

Those keeping of those commandments would go to the saved, not the unsaved. The predestined WOULD obey them, those left in their sins would not. We don't get access to God's eternal decrees, but that doesn't mean that God, after He wrote those commandments, stood around wishing and hoping Israel would follow them.

dude, the idea is that you still have the choice not too follow the commandments if you want, thats free will. You would be sinning, but that is you choice.
The bible is full of fallacies and inaccuracies, but this is not one of them.
The real question is, if God is all knowing, and he already knows all that will be done, how can we make a free choice if our actions are already known by God, and therefore predetermined?

It was free until the fall.
In the fall, it became perverted.
It only knew to go after the evil.
It was no longer free.
Total Depravity. WOWSER!
Commandments only made it rebel all the more.
The big fist up in the air.

We are free to follow God or not. You are free to disobey his commandments, we already do every day. But watch out for the consequences.
