Will this argument do the aparent pathetic way of dealing with the bible by most (not all) Christians help?
The Rev. Stephen Pisano, head of the Pontifical Biblical Institute, said that his interest lays in the “Bible itself, and if the discussion [through the book] encourages people to read the Bible, carefully and intelligently … then it may be that permitting the presentation of this book can be justified.”

Most Christians are dognatic in approaching the bible issue. They hardly understand theological argument in debating the bible. Will the argument of Pisano help in any way?

Mimi - In future, just read what intelligent people say. You are the only one who didn't get the question and that shows the level of your intelligence!

It is in the book of Judas, not the Gospel, that Jesus is actually taken over by the spirit as in an alien, this is contrary to the Biblical text, also it is written in a way to make Jesus almost suicidal, because He instructed Judas according to these writings on how to turn him over to complete the prophetic writings prior to Christ. Also not included are the birth and passion narratives needed to be a Gospel.
It is a fictionalized version of what the heretical movement of the day wrote to try to win one over on the current Christian movement, and it failed horribly.
The book is as if one reads, lets say the Davinci Code, fiction but a book to read never the less.
I am a Christian, devote and blessed, and I have read the translation, it makes for an interesting read, but nothing more. It is so fantastic that it is obvious that it was written with only one purpose to cause division and despair in the early Church.
Thanks for the opportunity to spread the Gospel, God bless you always.

Anything that gets people thinking about theology in an intellectual, careful, and applied manner is good.

To the first few people answering the Gospel of Judas was written after Christs death. It is not written by Judas Iscariot. It was written before 180 CE, but is a contempory of the gospels but it is gnostic.

Personally although I do not believe in gnosticism, I like some of the gnostic gospels.

Mimi is right. No reason to be rude.

I think you mean DOGMATIC, don't you?

I don't think you understand the theological implications that the Gospel of Judas claims Jesus was a space alien who essentially possessed the body of a Jewish Rabbi and had to kill said rabbi in order to be freed.

Sorry. I find that just a little too Scientologist. Not at all Christian.

How could there be a gospel according to Judas?
He committed suicide before Jesus was crucified.
The first gospel out was Mark.
~63 AD.
The second was Mathew ~65 AD.
Judas comitted suicide in 32 AD.
How could he have a gospel at all?

His agruement will neither help or hurt, and it non-theological. But he is correct that encouraging a careful, inteligent reading of the Bible is a good thing. When actually read, the Book can defend itself.

I really don't feel discussuion of the bible is necesary..its a book written by men 2000 years ago....to many people try to just understand it....they should try to realize it is fiction and if they really want to read it...try to fit it into this day and age and not 2000 years ago.
