Just run. A few laps around the track and you'll be fine.

Good Luck.

Why would a dude that isn't really big want to lose weight? Muscle weighs more then fat so by simply working out (even walking & building up the speed) will add some muscle while reducing fat & will reshape the body in a positive way. If you can pick up a used bicycle that would be a fun cardio exercise too.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats and it will tell you how many calories a day you need to maintain your weight. take 300-400calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones.
5-8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
8 glasses of water a day.
4-6 times a week cardio work out for 30-50min plus light weight training.
no junk food, no sodas, no white flour (white bread, pasta, cookies, cakes etc)

Maybe if he just get fit then he won't think he is so big. He can do push-ups and sit-ups and run a lot but make sure he keeps on eating the way he is or tell him to eat healthier.
I hope this helps him.
