i dunno, just seems like a follower 500 years ago would not recognize the church of today. all sorts of conflicting beliefs. just seems like the revelations stories are more about the day when the religion would fall due to fracturing (more likely the roman empire) as opposed to a true event, destined in the future.

wouldnt we be better off putting all beliefs aside, and just be good neighbors and humans?

Religion generally follows society. It changes as society changes. However, it tends to lag a bit.

Religion is not truth, it is superstition. There are no real gods around to set anybody straight. That's why there are so many different religions and so many sects within each religion. It is all based on the current leader's say-so. Even those who claim to "go back to doctrine" really just interpret it according to their more modern views.

Right the truth doesn't change. However people do change sometime for the better though often for the worst. Look at the fact that many years ago people in the so called church heirarchy would detest the idea of homosexual unions or leadership in the church. Now some of the same groups through delusion have tried to justify these illicit lifestyles among others.

I personally don't believe in religion. Religion is a control mechanism. It has been used throughout years to justify mass killings etc. Religion is man made concept of what one may justify why he is legitimate to live a certain lifestyle. Religions are constantly changing to suit the wicked heart of men. Christianity is a way of life perverted by wicked men. Don't follow them. Know God for yourself through His divine word.

God says in the bible I am the same yesterday, today and forever more. I believe in Christ whole heartliy. I don't believe to much in Pastors, Modern Prophets, Reverends, Bishops or whatever. People are depraved totally lost without submisson to the Higher Authorithy which is God. That is why the world is corrupt and men dive deeper into sin.

Truth never changes. Putting beliefs asides and being good is a cop out. It's not enough to be just good. You cannot be good without the true standard. Good by our standard isn't sufficient because everyone can say they're a good person. We all struggle with things we ought not do. Who and What is there to help us no the error of our ways and help us conquer it. Christ is the way the truth and the life. Any other way is the way of an anti-christ. Which is anti- truth.

There is way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof his ways are death. Proverbs 14:12

These things were fortold 1800 years ago when the two Epistles of Timothy were written. All that you see happening within and without the "Christian" church should come as no surprise to anyone. There always has been and always will be spiritual wickedness in high places concerning man's stewardship with religion. And yes, believers 500 years ago would recognize the church of today because of these things. All that is happening is for a purpose, namely to weed out the losers within the church and to serve as an ongoing discriminator. It is most necessary if you can dig that. As far as putting all beliefs aside, it doesn't work like that. Not yet.

If you didn't have religion, how would you know right from wrong and be able to be "good" neighbors. Who difines what a good neighbor even is if you don't have something to measure it by (which is a purpose of religion).

As to you point, I agree religion in general has "evolved" over the 2000 years since the death of Christ. And know you have thousands of variations on the original church that Jesus left upon his death. So is there a right one still out there and all the others false?

Finally, about the prophecies in Revelations about the end of the world... that depends on how its interrupted... there have been countless attempts to read these signs as actual dates... I understand that both the Jevohah's Witnesses and the Mormon church has expected the date to have come already and had to recant and modify that.. and I am sure history is filled with other examples. So the questions is not when it will come, but are people who expected to be saved living a good life for when it does.

Just my 2 cents!

You are right, the truth does not change. Men have over the years created denominations of the truth and named the churches after themselves or their beliefs.

The church does exist in the same form as the first century church, the church that Jesus established, the church of Christ. It bears his name and is actually made up of the people not the building. The members are the church.

We are not affiliated with any denomination but, instead, seek only to be Christians.

Each congregation is governed by its own elders, in harmony with the New Testament. We have no central headquarters or president. The head of the church is none other than Jesus Christ himself (Ephesians 1:22-23).

It is the Word of God that unites us into One Faith (Ephesians 4:3-6). We follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and his holy Apostles, and not the teachings of man. We are Christians only!

the christians have always been cafeteria style people. If a line substantiates their cause, they use it. If it doesn't, they flush it. Christianity is a religion of present convenience... the bible is a scary set of writings by starving stone-age shepherds. Myths were stolen from Babylon, Egypt, and other tribes all around.

Read the book The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins... but ony if you're pretty smart, and pretty open, and have some hisory background... It's on the best seller list of the NYT... tight arguments, nicely written. He could have, however dummied it down a bit.... sentences are long, and at times convoluted, making it not a great bed-time read.

The style changes but the content remains the same. The bible, the Word of God is what we test false teachers against.

We would not be better off putting beliefs aside and just trying to be good neighbors. Alone we fail. But with God we can do anything.

truth is in the eye of the beholder. my common sense is not the same as others. what was taught by the church changes because it is man made. Christ never made the laws. but he did say to peter " what you hold here on earth, will held in heaven ".
catholics were not allowed to eat meat on Friday. it was a mortal sin. and a damnation into hell. that changed. its OK to eat meat on Friday now.
my question is, are the ones who ate meat on Friday then, still in hell?

Your question is a little vague. Could you give specific examples as to what aspects you refer to as changed?

Thanks
