It has nothing to do with men's inability to control their impulses. There are perverts in ALL religions. Women who aren't dressed properly have a higher chance of being sexually harrassed, perverts think of it in the sense of 'she asked for it'
As a muslim i can tell about the reason why muslim women CHOOSE to wear hijab.
1- because Allah has told them to do so.
2-Women in Islam are evaluated for intelligence and skills instead of looks and sexuality. We want to stop men from treating us like sex objects, as they have always done. We want them to ignore our appearance and to be attentive to our personalities and mind. We want them to take us seriously and treat us as equals and not just chase us around for our bodies and physical looks.
3-A Muslim woman who covers her head is making a statement about her identity. Anyone who sees her will know that she is a Muslim and has a good moral character. Many Muslim women who cover are filled with dignity and self esteem; they are pleased to be identified as a Muslim woman.
And the list goes on...
Anyhow, it's the woman's choice, whether she wants to be covered up or not, and she should NEVER be prosecuted or judged for making this choice.

lol, thats a new way of looking at it, but it does seem kinda logical. I alwas thought that they r undermining the women by taking away their identity (eg, when covering their faces completely)
I know a girl at my school who wheres a full face vale when she steps out of the school gates and the only thing i can see of her r her eyes. When i speak to her, i feel kinda weird cos i cant see here expression or anything, i cant see her body language and i feel a bit confused. I have also seen that people avoid others who cover their faces, i think its cos its natural fr ppl to want to speak to a face and not just a pair of eyes and to be able to read the expressions and so on, all part of gd communication.
Its also unfair on the girl, i think, cos her father makes her wear it.

I don't believe "religions" have "impulses." But if you mean to ask whether adherents to certain religions have less ability to control their impulses, the answer is no. People are people, no matter what religion they profess.

People are people, wherever you go. Requiring that women feel shame for what they are is common all over the world. Mark Twain wrote that the reason men hate and fear women is because with age men lose the ability to have sex, and women never do. He thought it is the reason that they try to teach us that we are evil and should hide our femininity. They try to make us responsible for men's actions should they see us and sin. It's a pretty common theme in literature. In the "Hunchback of Notre Dame" the bishop called the gypsy a witch because he felt lust for her. So she had to die.

Yes. "oh, how dare you tempt me to sin by being your natural self, that's not fair! Cover yourself with this or i'll stone you!" If you think bad things, it's your fault. poke your own eyes out or something.
Not knocking anyone who voluntarily wears it, just men who force women to.

I don't know how covering a woman makes it "easier" to control anything, it just stirs the imagination more IMO, but I also respect a woman's desire to do so according to her beliefs.
