It really depends on the dog.
Giant breed dogs tend to live shorter life spans (8-10 years avg)
Smaller dogs can live until there mid-teens.
Just like humans, genetics can play a factor if they inherited any health issues from the parents.
Diseases like cancer can also shorten a dogs life span.

Depends on the size of the dog and the care you give them. Of course even a dog that you give the best care to can develop diseases like cancer and such that can shorten their life expectancies. It all depends but in general smaller dogs live longer then the larger breeds.

It really depends on the dog, his or her health. just enjoy every minute you have with them. It's not easy losing a pet that you had for a long time.
