It is not unusual for people that do bad things to claim righteousness. Or that they heard voices. Or any number of other excuses for bad behavior. Maybe they think they are Robin Hood. Maybe they think a lot of things. After all the Muslim terrorists think they are doing God's will and not only that, but they will be rewarded for it.
