Get him checked out for anything else. Be persistent, or the doctors won't listen. Try to get him active, so if there is a serious problem it won't worsen. Often small children have "puppy fat" but they grow out of that, instead of putting on more weight. Definitely keep a look out for any other symptoms and tell the doctor if anything changes.

If you're worried about bullying, 4 and 5 year old children don't generally care about weight and things. As long as he's a nice boy, he'll make plenty of friends.

Sorry if this didn't help.

Good luck.

You say he has been tested for a thyroid problem, and for Prader-Willi syndrome but have the results come back yet?? If yes and they were negative I would go back to the GP and get a referral for more tests!! This is a lot of weight for someone to put on in the space of 3 months, especially a child!! So it has to be down to some kind of medical condition. Normal, healthy children do not just start putting on this amount of weight overnight. Get all the tests that are available. Even the most simple of tests such as an allergy test. You never know he may be allergic to some kind of food hence the weight gain.

Try him on a diet of fresh vegetables no salt, and fish and meat like turkey and chicken. Stop any fizzy drinks and give him more water and squashes without sugar. Instaed of "puddings" give him fruit, apple, orange, banana, pineapple etc fresh.
If he does this for a couple of months, (and it will not hurt you either) you should find his podge has gone down and you will feel better too.
Good luck
