I had always heard that St Augustine was the original influence behind leaving the Passover tradition. A quick look at the Roman bishop Victor indicates that he excommunicated the Quartodecimans (Christians celebrating the Passover) around 180 - 190AD. The Council of Nicaea in 325AD standardized the date to celebrate the death and Resurrection of Jesus, instead of Passover, or a combination of the two. This has carried over to the current church.

I don't believe that there is any Biblical support for Christians to drop the Passover. I believe that this needs to be celebrated by the church.

We do. The Orthodox Christians call it Pascha and have a big feast. Pascha is celebrated after Easter. Easter is celebrated at midnight and then the following afternoon it's Pascha.

The Roman Catholics call it "The Seder Meal" and some Roman Catholics priests celebrate it with the Jews and their Rabbis together as a Judeo-Christian meal that commemorates the Passover in which God was working through Moses in delivering the people from slavery. For Christians the meal also commemorates Holy Week and the Last Supper of Jesus.

Actually, there's a growing trend of Christian Passover observances. In my community, several Protestant churches are holding Passover services this year (and some of them have been doing it for a long time). It's often seen as an interfaith ritual, and in most cases, local Jews are invited to assist with the services.

Some do - my sister for example. I do not, since I am convinced that Christ is the end of the law and that the Passover was for the Jew.

why would christians celebrate passover?

it has nothing to do with them, its a jewish holiday.

also please please keep in mind that there is a christian abombination of Passover invented by the messianics that is a christianization of passover, and this is *profoundly* offensive to all jewish people.

just remember one big thing.

Passover has *nothing* to do with jesus in any way shape or form.

*nothing* at all. if you see a version of anything to do with passover, that incorporates jesus into the meaning of anything, then it is something that is profoundly offensive to any legitimate jewish people. (though, some likely aren't "into it" enough to care, but... still offensive)

"Messianic Jews" are not jewish, they are christians who lie and deceive in order to draw people away from God.

would even Jesus want people to lie in order to convert people? I don't think he would.

here is a good article discussing this,

If you know the passover story, then you know they're celebrating being passed over when the first son's of Egypt were killed. If we're not Jewish, we really don't have anything to celebrate there.

They do, its called Easter, and they just changed the significance and name, before the Jews (or in other cultures) its the Spring equinox, when all of the flowers bloom. Just as X-mas is the Winter equinox, etc.

I can't say for all Christians, but as for me, I'm a gentile Christian. My ancestors were not slaves in Egypt.
