The first time was by a cop. I walked up to ask him directions in a dark parking lot, and startled him. I saw the gun and flashlight in my eyes, and stepped to the side instinctively. He very clearly informed me not to do that, and I very politely asked him to holster his gun. We resolved the misunderstanding carefully and quickly, and he was very nice after that.

An "innocent person " will never do stupid things because of nerves if a police officer points a gun at them. Police officers are subject to very strict protocol which puts them at a huge disadvantage when placing someone under arrest. Having a gun pointed at you is very frightening but you have got to respect the risk that police officers face everyday. You're right, we're all human and we all make mistakes...please expand your question.

yes. Three times by police and once by an enemy(civilian). And yes, you are right. You will react abnormally when you are faced with the immediate fear of death. Actually what I am calling "abnormal" here is the normal response. You do whatever you think it'll take to keep you alive.
Do cops make mistakes??? Are they human? Sure they do, but when you've got a barrel in your face you're gonna react like any other drug dealer or serial killer- for fear of your life. And when you act fearful they will assume that to be guilt. That's how the system is set up. That's how we are expeted to live. Not only by the cops, but by the judges and civilians that empower the cops.

Yes. AND, I've been shot AT ... unlike TV scenarios, I did not return fire in either instance because there were others too close to the suspect for me to safely return fire. I dropped for cover and continued my pursuit when I could.
Are there instances of police officers accidentally discharging their weapons? Sure. This comes from bad training and weapons handling. But, I'd rather have an officer pointing a gun in my direction that Johnny Dirtbag.

No but i have had a knife put to my throat and i froze like a Popsicle but freaked after the situation was over. I agree, if you are wrongly accused of something you may just (because of nerves) freak out if the cop were to point a gun at you.

Yes I did. This mentally unstable person got freaked out cause me and a buddy were talking too loudly to each other. He turned around with a gun in his hand. We just ducked behind a car and ran home. We called the cops and they nailed the guy.
I checked my underware for treadmarks later!

Yes. I was in Rota Spain while in the Navy and late at night outside a nightclub the Spanish police were outside for some reason. One of the Spanish detectives was waving a .45 automatic pistol around, and he pointed it at me for a few seconds.
Since I was just standing there minding my own business, I didn't like it too much.

Yes I have. By police when pulled over for a crime committed in the area I was driving (not by me) and by a drunk outside of a bar. The police issue was much less frightening as they are taught how and when to use a weapon. The drunk was a little more scary to me. Drunks are more likely to be affected by irrational exhuberance.

Yes, twice by a person who will remain unnamed (not police). First time with a shotgun -- I was scared to 'death'. The 2nd time with a pistol, I just got real mad and maneuvered to wrestle the gun from their hands, then threw it way out of reach.
2nd time I found out the pistol was unloaded, but I was unsure at the time it was pointing in my face.

I have had. My ex husband pulled a gun at me and my ex boyfriend once. It was a very scary experience. His wasn't loaded, but still scary.
I agree that stupid things can happen and people do stupid things when in stressful situations.
