I am not 100% sure but I think world vision (i think that's the name). I used to sponser a child through them and I don't think I would have done it if their pamplet sounded something like "Christian's Childred Fund". But then again, if they seemed reasonable enough, I would have donated also - i want a kid to eat. If these guys will whisper a bit about Jesus for 2 minutes after three meals, I guess I wouldn't mind.

In either case, check world vision if that is the right name. Stay AWAY from CCF or something like that. I came to know a lot of funny things about how money flows through some like them. Don't remember exactly whether it was CCF.

You might want to look into supporting Migdal Ohr in Israel. It's a very worthy charity that provides housing, healthcare, education and job placement to disadvantaged Israeli youth. You can't sponsor an individual child, though.

Here's its web site:

Our private school creates full and partial scholarships for kids with lots of ambition and low income. People who create them tent to be fairly wealthy, so you may need to find something on a smaller scale. You could look around at other schools in your area and find out how to help the impoverished in your city, maybe donate money for books?

You don't need a Christian organization, there is big brothers and sisters, or you can just walk into any orphanage and find out if you can help any of those kids.

Donations to probably half the non-profits out there go to "sponsor" children. You just don't get a picture and a paragraph.
