It is a small step up in price ($4K) and size. Veracruz has the larger engine and towing capacity along with a standard 3rd row seating. As you mentioned the Veracruz also has more luxury features available and as standard equipment. The Veracruz is 6.5 inches longer, 2.2 wider and 1 inch taller along with 4 inches longer wheelbase. So if you have older kids or adults as passengers you'll want to go with the flagship Veracruz, otherwise the Santa Fe will be just fine for you.

1st to JeffyB -- The CRV is not even in the same class as the Santa Fe or The Veracruz --- try again Honda boy.
The Veracruz in bigger, longer, wider and on a stiffer suspension. It comes with a standard 3rd row seat with more leg room than the Santa Fe. It has more standard interior features, a bigger, more powerful engine, and more towing capacity.
They both are fantastic vehicles and I have family members driving both. My current demo is a Veracruz, and I was in a Santa Fe. If you don't need the extra room of power, go Santa Fe, it was a wonderful vehicle to drive every day.
Also Hyundai just increased the rebate on the Santa Fe, there is no rebate on the Veracruz

The Veracruz is mush larger and has more dings, as you said. Personally, I think Hyundai is the best company out there. I love the Santa Fe in design, price, quality, warranty, and safety. My opinion - get a Santa Fe as its a bit more experienced. The Veracruz will probably have some new car faults.

Veracruz is bigger than the Santa Fe. But I recommend you to buy the Vercruz. It's hottie HOT HOT!!!! A hunky lot better than a Ford Edge.

I have a Santa Fe & I love it! I have had it for 3 years now and I have not had ONE problem with it at all. The warranty is fabulous and I have free oil changes for life. I think the only thing I have paid for on it is a tire rotation. Its a really reliable car as far as I am concerned.

I was testing out cross-overs and I went with the new Ford Edge. Drove both and thought the edge seemed a heck of a lot nicer and better quality. Check it out and see what you think.
