so if dolce means sweet in italian wat does gabanna mean

"gabbana" is an old Italian word (almost out of current use) and it means "loose overcoat".
Italian translation of their names is hence
"sweet and loose overcoat" (but I guess they wouldn't be happy in seeing this...!!!)
It's however still very common in a combined word with volta (turn) and "Voltagabbana" (turncoat, weathercock) is somebody who's changing very quickly his opinion just for a reason of personal advantage

gabbana..

in a domain name decision in 2001, a defendant that had registered the name dolce and gabbana (and were sued by fashion designers dolce and gabbana) said that dolce gabbana can also mean "sweet overcoat" instead of just two people's names. =]
