I went into anaphylectic shock over eating that tainted Peter Pan peanut butter and I would like to think that maybe the company would at least pay my medical bill from the incident. My 12 year old son got sick too. I was scared to eat anything for weeks after that incident. I would only eat bread and fresh veggies. I still have the tainted jar but haven't gotten it tested yet.

Marler-Clark is handling the biggest of the class action suits.

However, unless you had a salmonellosis diagnosis that was confirmed with a STOOL CULTURE positive for the presence of Salmonella tennessee (this is a fairly uncommon species, and it was the one found in the peanut butter), you don't have much evidence to back your case.

Salmonella symptoms include sudden onset of FEVER, headache, STOMACH CRAMPS, DIARRHEA, nausea, and occasionally vomiting. The capitalized symptoms are the major defining symptoms. Without those, it's highly unlikely a doctor will suspect salmonellosis. If you did have all of those, then the doctor would ask for a stool culture to confirm the diagnosis.

I don't think you quite fit the case definition because you mentioned that you've been ill for two years. Then again, when people think they may be sick, they will try to link other things to their suspected illness (we call this a "recall bias"). Salmonella tennessee infection doesn't cause a prolonged illness like that. It starts 24-72 hours after ingestion of the bacteria, then runs its course in about a week (even without medication).

Check the lot number of the jar. Then look for a private laboratory that does food testing (health departments won't test food unless you have also had a confirmed positive stool culture).

As for anaphylactic shock, if you know you are allergic to peanuts, you cannot win a suit against the company because it is known and declared that their product contains peanuts.

Anaphylactic shock is an allergic reaction - something someone would experience if say they had an actual allergy to peanuts or something along those lines. That was NOT the reason behind the recall - it was either salmonella or e. coli. Before you go rushing off to contact an attorney, get your stories straight on what you actually had.

It was salmonella - discovered by doing a really simple google search - which could have given you information you were looking for as well:
