There have been uncountable people who have gone into comas for long periods of time and then woken up, why should this be any different back then? People in hospitals wake up from coma's every day, but now, since we know what they are, we no longer call it a "miracle"

Joh 11:14 Then Jesus told them plainly, "Lazarus has died,
Joh 11:15 and for your sake I am glad that I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him."
(ESV Translation)

Christ would not have declared Lazarus dead if he were merely in a coma.

When a person is dead, they are dead. A person in a coma will have a heartbeat. Lazarus did not. The people of that time might have been ancient, but they knew a dead person when they saw one. Have you seen a dead person? When a person has been dead awhile, they turn grayish-blue. Their body becomes rigid and their skin becomes cold. Sometimes, their body fluids are released through the cavities because they no longer have muscle control to keep things in check. They will also start to smell bad as their bodies go through the process of decay. Lazarus had been dead for a few days - there was no doubt about his death. Lazarus was DEAD - NOT in a coma. I am wondering why you are asking such questions - your last question had to do with Jesus raising from the dead or was it just some magic trick. Could it be that you are doubting your OWN belief that Christ is not real? If you were secure in your own disbelief, would you really be looking for ways to disprove what you already don't believe? Sounds like you might be starting to believe that Christ is real and you are afraid to face the fact that it could be true, so you are trying to disprove it because it scares you. Please don't be scared of the Truth. Jesus Christ IS real and He loves you. Please explore as you are doing and get to know Him. I can promise you, that you will be glad you did.

Notice that in the story, Lazarus had died and been in the tomb for four days before Jesus perfomed his miracle. Within the tomb, he would have received neither food or water, not medical attention, was not hooked to an IV, etc. If he were in a comma, in that length of time he would have died from lack of water. His organs would have began to fail at about the 2 1/2 day mark, and he would have died during the third day.

The people who recover from commas today have been on IVs and other forms of life support to keep them alive. Without those, they would have died.

But even if it was a comma, and he just awake, it is still a miracle. Show me any doctor today who can cure a comma by just speaking to the patient.

So even if he was "in a coma", he would not have survived until the fourth day, or had the strength to hop (such he was bound like a mummy) out of the tomb.

No, it wouldn't have made more sense. Lazarus was allowed to die so that people could see the glory of God that could reside in each of those who chose to believe! Besides, people today think it as big of a miracle when someone awakes from a long coma, so why wouldn't they believe people could raise others from the dead within the scope of God's will? Reread the story concerning Lazarus. Jesus was asked why He allowed Lazarus to die and He said something to the effect that it was so everyone could see the glory of God.

Lazarus was dead. By the time Jesus got to where Lazarus was buried the spices and herbs could not hide the odor of death. There was no coma, the body had been prepared for burial and was buried.
Jesus came after he (Lazarus) had been dead four days. He was raised from the dead. There have been others raised form the dead, even in our time. There is a man in Africa who had been embalmed and was still raised from the dead.

For starters:
If your idea was true, it makes Jesus a liar.
Jesus said categorically Lazarus was DEAD.
And isn't it an interesting idea that Lazarus should come out of his 'coma' exactly at the moment Jesus called him.
Was Laz in on it?
If he was in on it, did his 2 sisters know as well, since they are a big part of that experience.
Were some, or all, of the 12 Apostles in on it too?
Why do people see conspiracies everywhere?

This was not a coma, for Lazarus' body had begun to decompose.

"Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. Jesus said, “Take away the stone.”
Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.” Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.” Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”

Please read your Bible. You missed the whole point of Lazarus` death.Jesus used it to show that the same thing would happen to Him.He would rise up from the grave.Do you realize that if Jesus didnt specifically say Lazarus` name that every dead person in the whole cemetary would have come out of their graves?

He was embalmed and wrapped as customary for the dead. They would not do this to a warm, breathing person.

When the tomb was opened, people feared the smell of his rotting corps. Read the passage again.
