my cat .. he kills a lot of mice and insects in the house, therefore replacing the need to hire an exterminator.

How do I claim him?

You'll need a schedule F (feline). You'll need to determine if the gain is short term (he kills the mouse immediately) or long term (he plays with it for awhile).

As the cost of exterminators is not a deductible expense on the Federal Tax return, neither would the expenses related to your cat be deductible, You can not claim this on Your Federal Tax return

I'd say claim him as home business income and then deduct for the losses (food, litter, vet care). He/she is part of the research and developement department for a start up pest control company.

You don't. Nice try, though.

If nothing else, exterminator fees aren't tax deductible anyway so that angle won't work.
