50" Panasonic Plasma 720P
Panasonic Upconvert DVD player
DISH Network HD Reciever
LG Surround Sound system LH-E9674

My question is can I wire everything to play through my surround system that I have or do I need to get a reciever such as the Panasonic SA-XR55S. I just got the HD TV and the upconvert DVD last weekend and I don't really want to spend any more but I want everything to run through the surround speakers.

Thanks for the help!

that will work fine, hook the upconvert dvd (video portion) directly to the tv i recommend using composit video (3 cables for video only), then use the digital audio (fiber optic) from the dvd to the surround system for the audio portion. this should give you good picture and full surround capabilities. you will have to use the tv to switch between video inputs and surround for audio signal.

I've seen some people send all their video connections directly to the TV, and the audio to the receiver. That makes extra switching necessary when changing sources, but allows for better quality picture and saves from having to buy a new receiver because it did not come through with enough of whatever the currently required connections are today. You know how FAST that changes.

You can wire the sound outputs to the system, video for best quality will need to be switched at the TV. A bigger receiver would switch for all but compatibility with the existing speakers is in question. most systems of this type are proprietary in nature and do not do well with upgrades/refits.
