Heaven is another dimension, one that we cannot perceive from the physical realm. I am a born again Christian but have come to accept that God has given me an enquiring mind with a predilection towards science. Theoretical physics astounds me.
Given that the soul has no mass and yet is obviously there given our ability to think about it and the Bible's assertion that God is Spirit and therefore no physical mass, we can deduce that after death, our spirit travels from this dimension to another.
Of course, The Bible had to be understandable to all people of all eras in the past 2-5,000 years so there is no talk of dimensions and crossover events.
However, there is evidence that advanced technology was used in the Bible, the prophet, Isaiah saw a 'chariot' with wheels within a wheel coming across the water. Even the ascension (at the risk of having blasphemy charges thrown at me); where the disciples saw Jesus rising into heaven could be a kind of matter transportation device that we don't have even now.
I have been criticised for practically describing God as an alien but think about it. An alien is thought of as a being that's not of this Earth, usually with abilities and powers that are greater than our own. I am quite happy with the thought that, perhaps, when I die, my spirit will traverse dimensions and live in an alternate one with a being who is - to us - all-powerful and cares enough for us to have created a way for us to reach Him.

Christians who accept the bible will say it's on the other side of the firmament. Genesis describes the firmament as being above the sky, as containing lights like the sun, moon, and stars, and as separating us from heaven.
Later verses show that it is not that high up. With god's permission, Jacob could climb a ladder up to it and the citizens of Babel could build a tower that threatened to reach it before god intervened.
In reality, heaven is a mythical place which represents what should be the ultimate goal of mankind. It is a reward for living life correctly. Different religions describe it differently but the idea of a reward for proper beliefs and actions is constant across them.

The greeks name 3 heavens. 1 is the sky. 2 is outerspace. 3 is the heaven you're probably asking about. I don't know and the bible doesn't say. Check out a book called "Heaven" by Randy Alcorn.

If you want mythological answer, heaven is second layer above earth. first level being yum-lok second being swarg-lok or heaven.
If you are the person who don't believe in mythology, then you can be the change what you want to see. If you believe in the basic fundamental of humanity which is LIVE and LET LIVE, and make continuos effort to cultivate that thought in society, your soceity is heaven.
Your effort can extend the limit of heaven as sky is the limit.
What is heaven? It is your state of mind what make it happy.

Heaven is a place, just as earth is a place. In other words its not floating around on clouds as some picture it.
The bible describes it as being in "the third heaven".
Beyond space.

In your belief that there is some place out there in the space. In your heart when there is bliss or bliss-like emotion of love. Reduced to its basics, it's a mix of a concept and a feeling.

The same place hell is - in our minds.
of course you could listen to charlatans like Sylvia Browne - she claims it hovers just two feet off the ground, but in another dimension.
