Best thing to do if you're looking for stand alone coverage, and you can't afford a private insurance policy (which will likely run you around $150 to $200 a month), is to contact your state CHIPS program. Here's a link: http://www.hhs.state.ne.us/med/kidsconx.htm

There are no copays and no deductibles, but you have to re-apply every six months. Great program, though.

I can't speak about the affordability anymore, but do NOT go with Principal. They suck, they barely cover anything and have tons of hoops to jump through if you even need a simple doctor's visit. Try to find a good BC/BS plan that fits into the budget. They rock.
