There are many scholarships out there. However, it takes time to complete the paperwork. I do know of some other places to locate scholarships in both the community and online. It also takes a lot of work with writing the essay. The only easy scholarships to get are attached to the school with need based financial aid. The following is a list of free resources to locate scholarships in both the community and home.

First, the college's financial aid office and website has a list of private scholarships offered from outside organizations and companies. Sometimes a college major's website will list scholarships, too.

Second, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Third, fill out the FAFSA form. It will help tap into federal and state need based financial aid along with scholarship money from the college itself. It is based on the parents' income and savings along with your income and savings. The form becomes available on January 1 for the upcoming fall semester or quarter. It needs to be renewed each year until college graduation. This should be filled out in her senior year.

Fourth, current high school students can locate local scholarship information at the high school guidance office.

Fifth, good grades and SAT/ACT scores do pay in the form of state grants and scholarships. I recommend searching Google.com and Yahoo.com for more information on it.

Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites, but the best I have located is Scholarship Experts since they have a very thorough and lengthy survey to complete compared to Fastweb. There are scholarships for a variety of things including ethnicity, clubs, hobbies, and even wearing duct tape to the high school prom. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered onto a form on the website.

Good luck!

as the other posters stated their are MANY out their. The key is to apply for as many as you can. the more scholarships you get the "less" ones you can turn down for the higher ones. don't forget to look online for scholarships like http://www.win-college-scholarships.com as they give away a 10000 scholarship every 3 months.

You can't just get a scholarship. You have to earn it. If you're really good at basketball, you could get a spots scholarship.
