Hopefully your Doctor gave you something for it. I had a friend who suffered from it but a lot was from what they were eating. Later I think they found out they had a tear in the lining of their intestine's or something to.

They should be able to give you some kind of medication for it to help. We all know that is a trial and error.

Becareful of Vitamin's that you may take if you take any. My friend said " they experianced alot of pain in their stomach from vitamin's." Maybe try to eliminate what you don't need if possible. And of course spicy food's and milk product's.

Your not alone, lot's of people suffer from many different thing's that are depressing or make them feel self concious. Keep in mind everyone feel's self concious about something about themselves. Nobody's perfect even if they try to make us think so. Hope you feel better.

Yes, I have IBS and found that cutting out dairy especially milk, yoghurt's, horlicks and soft cheeses was the best thing. I have sweetened soya milk now on cereals, and you can`t tell the difference if you use it in cooking. I also found porridge a big help, not the Ready Brek kind but Scotts Porage Oats. I make it with soya milk in the miro every morning for breakfast with a little canderel. I now only drink the delicious Earl Grey tea with bergamot as you don`t need to add milk to it. Following this regime my symptoms have all but diminished but I still have Immodium in the house, just in case! PS cerials like Bran Flakes or Special K also caused wind and bloating.

I was diagnosed many years ago, at the time they didn't know what was wrong with me and I had so many tests done over so many years.

The best thing to do is keep a food diary, some foods will affect you more than others and slowly you will learn which foods to avoid. Try something like fibrogel (maybe wrong spelling) to keep you regular. IBS is also triggered by stress so many people take up yoga.

It can be managed, ask your doctor for some leaflets, or there is plenty of info on the net.

I hardly notice mine now, as I know which foods to avoid, it takes time but you'll get there. So many people have IBS, you can live a normal life with it.

Good luck .

Depression is not a symptom of irritable bowel, IBS can be a symptom of depression. This is why psychotherapy has been shown to help IBS and is one good option.

With regards to drug/diet options, high fibre diets are often advocated 50% of patients with IBS get worse on high fibre diets. Interestingly this group feel better on low fibre diets, but for a number of reasons there are not considered a good idea,On paper Colpermin, high dose peppermint oil is licenced to help. In my view it seldom does and just gives the patient indigestion.

Antispasmodics like mebeverine often help the cramp, but not the annoying fluctuating bowel habit.

The only drug I have found consistently helpful is amitriptylline in low dose 10-25mgs at night is usually sufficient. Once upon a time this drug was used as an antidepressant, now it's main use is as an atypical pain killer, especially good in neuralgia. In IBS it works as a smooth muscle relaxant.

Go see your GP and dicuss options.

Colpermin has been fantastic for me. I suffer from bloating, cramps and constipation interspersed with periods of diarrhea. After being told by the doctor that I had IBS I totally changed my diet, cutting out bread and greasy foods. It was really trial and error to find out what things upset my stomach. However, even with all these changes to my diet I still suffer the symptoms of IBS, not every day but still quite often.

A friend recommended Colpermin to me and I haven't looked back since, they are fantastic. I am never without a box of these in my handbag, they work within 15 to 20 minutes. I don't know what I'd do without them!"

Hun, I've lived with IBS now for about ten years. I take Nexium twice per day and Librax twice per day. I no longer have the explosive gas and all the other good stuff that goes along with IBS. IT CAN BE TREATED!! Find a good gastroenterologist and insist on treatment. You do not have to feel the way you do right now.

Best of luck to you!

no cure yet, but I am on a medication called Dicetel, it helps with the .... uh, uncertainness of the condition. Also you may want to keep track of what you eat and when you get a flare-up. the two are usually related. for me, i can't have too many green beans, spicy foods or white bread. Hope this helps!

This is a very distressing condition and my wife suffered with it for many years, the best thing we found for it is GNLD's Aloe Vera Plus. It is very calming and healing. As IBS is stress related it also helps keep stress levels down, thus helping to prevent a further attack.
